The Stratfor Hack Was Not The Work Of Anonymous

Yesterday we have covered a story which was saying that U.S. Security Think Tank Stratfor was hacked by Anonymous. Later Anon authority completely denied this hack. In the official press release anon clearly said that Stratfor is an open source intelligence agency, publishing daily reports on data collected from the open internet. Hackers claiming to be Anonymous have distorted this truth in order to further their hidden agenda, and some Anons have taken the bait. They have also confirmed that the hackers - who may be linked to Sabu of LulzSec fame - managed to steal Stratfor's confidential client list and mined over 4,000 credit card numbers, passwords and home addresses.

THE STRATFOR HACK IS NOT THE WORK OF ANONYMOUS


Stratfor is an open source intelligence agency, publishing daily reports on data collected from the open internet. Hackers claiming to be Anonymous have distorted this truth in order to further their hidden agenda, and some Anons have taken the bait.


The leaked client list represents subscribers to a daily publication which is the primary service of Stratfor. Stratfor analysts are widely considered to be extremely unbiased. Anonymous does not attack media sources. In this excerpt from Time, there is a brief description of how Stratfor analysts uncovered a possible US backed coup in Iraq preceding the US invasion.


"In the past month Stratfor has drawn attention to a carefully assembled open-source report that asserted that last month's attack on Iraq wasn't intended just to punish Saddam Hussein for blowing off U.N. weapons inspectors. By sorting through thousands of pieces of publicly available data--from Middle East newspapers to Iraqi-dissident news--Stratfor analysts developed a theory that the attacks were actually designed to mask a failed U.S.-backed coup. In two striking, contrarian intelligence briefs released on the Internet on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, Stratfor argued that Saddam's lightning restructuring of the Iraqi military, followed by executions of the army's Third Corps commanders, was evidence that the coup had been suppressed. Predictably, U.S. officials said the report was wrong."


Stratfor has been purposefully misrepresented by these so-called Anons and portrayed in false light as a company which engages in activity similar to HBGary. Sabu and his crew are nothing more than opportunistic attention whores who are possibly agent provocateurs. As a media source, Stratfor's work is protected by the freedom of press, a principle which Anonymous values greatly.


This hack is most definitely not the work of Anonymous.

Anonymous Engaged Massive Cyber-Attack To Bring-down Vatican Website 
Hacker collective group Anonymous take-down the official site of Vatican. In the last Wednesday evening Vatican faced massive denial of service of attack and www.vatican.va, was inaccessible for much of Wednesday afternoon and evening. According to Anonymous the motive of this cyber attack is to protest everything from Catholic doctrine to the sexual abuse of children. The hacker group said - "This attack is not against the Christian religion or the faithful around the world but against the corrupt Roman Apostolic Church," said the statement, posted on the Italian-language version of the Anonymous website. 
"Anonymous decided today to besiege your site in response to the doctrine, to the liturgies, to the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organization spreads around the world," the hackers said in a statement. Last year also Anonymous tried to engage cyber-attack into the Vatican but failed. The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, confirmed the attack but declined to comment on its possible source. He said he didn't know how long it would take the Vatican's technicians to bring the site back up. 
Similarly last year Anonymous has declared Operation Brotherhood and Threatens to "Destroy The Muslim Brotherhood". According to the official you tube video release Anon declared that  to hack Muslim Brotherhood websites, starting with the Arabic Ikhwanonline.com. But #OpBrotherhood  caused serious damage for Anonymous while a hacker named a Pakistani Hacker called Tha Disastar has Hacked and defaced the official website of AnonyOPS. The DDoS specilist has also faced massive denial of service attack on the anonyops.com. In the message hacker said that "Anonymous should stay in limits,and must not go out of there limits to others peoples religion". That time also Anonymous clarified that the attack was not to hit the Muslim religion but to those grand-masters who vows to follow all orders of the Murshid, without hesitation such as terrorism and so on. But the Muslims took that in a conservative way and as a result Anon faced massive criticism as well ass cyber attack. Who knows may be this attack against Vatican may also create the same scenario for the Hacktivist.

Several members of the LulzSec and Anonymous hacking groups were arrested this morning by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. It is reported that the arrests were made possible after turning the group’s "senior leader", Hector Xavier Monsegur aka "Sabu", 28, who is believed to be a cooperative witness after the FBI turned him last June. Monsegur pled guilty to several charges of computer hacking conspiracy, for which he could receive a maximum of 124 years behind bars. Those arrested today included a member of the AntiSec hacking group who is believed responsible for the massive intrusion at security think tank Stratfor last December.
A law enforcement official in New York confirmed the arrests and said that six hackers belonging to the Anonymous, LulzSec and Antisec groups were nabbed in U.S. and overseas locations. The official described those arrested as "principal members" of Anonymous and LulzSec. The five hackers are identified in the report as Ryan Ackroyd, aka "Kayla" and Jake Davis, aka "Topiary" from London, two residents of Ireland, Darren Martyn, aka "pwnsauce" and Donncha O'Cearrbhail, aka "palladium", and Jeremy Hammond aka "Anarchaos," from Chicago, USA. According to the FBI press release, all but Davis face charges of computer hacking conspiracy and various other charges. Each carries a maximum 10 year prison sentence.
According to Anonymous Twitter feed: "We are Legion. We do not have a leader nor will we ever. LulzSec was a group, but Anonymous is a movement. Groups come and go, ideas remain"
It is unclear what to expect from Anonymous in reaction to the arrests. The hacking group is known for revenge cyber attacks. After 25 Anonymous members were arrested on February 29, the group downed Interpol’s main website. The same thing happened when the CIA website became a victim of Anonymous. The group also downed several large music industry, Department of Justice, FBI and many other federal authorities websites in response to the shutting down of Megaupload and the arrest of its founder Kim Dotcom. 
News of Sabu's arrest prompted several tweets from Anonymous this morning, including one that threatened retaliation. "The way Sabu & gang took control of Anonops.. anonops gonna retaliate," the tweet said.

Day of Vengeance By Anonymous On September 24th

Hacktivist group Anonymous is planning to hold a special "Day of Vengeance" in several cities around the U.S. on Saturday. Anonymous' decision to release its "communique" and call for a Day of Vengeance is a response to the recent New York City "Occupy Wall Street" demonstration. Last week, about 1,000 people from various groups descended on Lower Manhattan to protest the corporate world's close ties to American politics. The protesters were urged by the "Occupy Wall Street" organizers to "flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months."

On September 17, 2011 approximately 15,000 peaceful demonstrators in dozens of cities around the USA gathered, marched - and occupied public space to protest the unjust policies of the US government and the corruption in our financial institutions. The central protest site was in the financial district of New York City, where peaceful protesters faced phalanxes of heavily armed paramilitary police officers from local and federal jurisdictions. The arrests began almost immediately, many for violating the 1845 so called "mask" laws.
Later that day, and according to plan - many of these protests ended with a peaceful  occupation of public space. Again, the central occupation occurred in NYC. More arrests continued to take place. All of this was expected, it is part of progressive activism. Anonymous was content to challenge these stupid "mask" laws in court. But then on Tuesday - September 20, 2011 everything changed in a flash of police instigated violence. As rain began to fall on the NYC encampment, heavily armed police moved in; Removing tarps used to cover media equipment, arresting independent journalists, confiscating media equipment - and using excessive force against and arresting innocent peaceful protesters, several of whom were abused and injured.

This year, we heard President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton say over and over in country after country from the Balkans through the mid-east to Africa that the right to peacefully protest and occupy public space is a right that MUST be respected in every instance. And they are correct, and this also applies to the USA. In fact, even more so. In the USA of all countries in the world, the police should have been deployed to PROTECT the protesters - not a giant brass bull that is the ultimate symbol of greed and corruption in America. And yet we were treated to the grotesque picture of dozens of armored police surrounding this brass bull, while thousands more police were deployed solely to harass, arrest - and abuse peaceful protesters.

A hacktivist group named "SolSec" in association with Anonymous took down Americannaziparty.com in January 28 and continued attacks through the weekend. This attack is the part of ongoing operation #OpBlitzkrieg by Anonymous. The first tweet came from Anonymous Center and their they claimed the responsibility of the attack.
The above screen shot was taken from the American Nazi official site when it was defaced by Anonymous hackers. Not only American Nazi but also Anonymous took down the white supremacist site Whitehonor.com on Jan. 30. The incidents come on the heels of Anonymous' early January #OpBlitzkrieg attacks on several German neo-Nazi and extremist groups, including Germany's far-right National Democratic Party. On a site called Nazi-Leaks, Anonymous posted the names and addresses of NPD donors as well as email addresses, email messages and names taken from several American white-supremacist online groups, one of which was the American Nazi Party. Sony blames hacktivist group Anonymous for Playstation Network intrusion

File this one under “things not to do when dealing with massive network outages.” Sony has kicked the hornet’s nest today by blaming Anonymous, a massive network of hackers that regularly takes up activist causes, for indirectly causing a breach of security in its PlayStation Network (PSN) online gaming network that led to the attack that brought PSN down.
While the company isn’t blaming Anonymous for the attack itself, it said the hackers that stole gobs of sensitive data about PSN users were able to break into the network while it was defending itself from denial of service attacks orchestrated by Anonymous. Anonymous took on Sony after the company went after famed PS3 hacker George Hotz, who reverse engineered the PlayStation 3 to run unauthorized programs.
When the PlayStation Network crashed on April 21, Anonymous said it was not behind the attack. Instead, the hacktivist group said, “Sony is incompetent.” But an observer of the IRC forum used by members of Anonymous said the attackers behind this current Sony outage appear to have learned their methods from Anonymous’ activities of two weeks ago.
This really is not the time for Sony to start playing with fire. Anonymous doesn’t regularly respond to blame and threats, but because the network of hackers has taken on Sony before, there is no guarantee Sony’s latest accusation won’t spark some kind of retaliation. Anonymous has proven time and again that it is a force to be reckoned with. Sony has to focus on beefing up its network, not trying to shift blame around and incite more attacks against the already feeble network.
Hackers attacked the PSN on April 19, forcing the Japanese company to bring down the network, which has more than 77 million registered users. The nightmare then continued after hackers broke into the company’s Station.com site, which serves as a host for its PC games like Everquest. Hackers were able to steal information from as many as 24.6 million accounts on that site, according to Sony. In all, more than 100 million accounts might have been compromised.
The PSN breach was a massive security gaffe that has caused the U.S. government to get involved and demand answers — such as who attacked the network and what users were affected. Sony has sent warnings to PSN users about the possible credit card theft. The whole ordeal spawned an apology from Sony that lasted more than an hour and a half.
The network has been down for more than a week, denying 77 million registered gamers the ability to play online games, watch movies, listen to music or download other entertainment to their PlayStation 3 consoles and PlayStation Portable handhelds. The PlayStation Network is a critical service that competes with Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service — as well as other online gaming services. There are also 948 games now available in the PlayStation Network store, as well as 4,000 pieces of add-on content for games.

When the topic or act of Internet surveillance or Internet privacy rises its head, every time the Hacktivist group Anonymous stand against it. Earlier the world seen not only Anonymous but also hackers from different of the world joined in the protest against controversial act like SOPA, PIPA, ACTA or CISPA. Quit similar scenario happens to Philippines, as soon as the anti-cybercrime law get passed, immediately hackers shown a massive protest against it. The cyber fence of Philippine was heavily disturbed since Wednesday. At the very first stage of the attack the hacker group calling themselves "Anonymous Philippines" targeted several government, civil society and other private websites of Philippine and defaced them. This ongoing cyber attack against Philippine have been dubbed as Operation Philippine (#OpPhilippines)


As of Wednesday midnight, the website of Bangko Sentralng Pilipinas, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, the American Chamber of Commerce, and the Philippine Anti-Piracy Team succumbed to the cyber-attacks. The websites of the anti-smoking campaign unit of the Department of Health and think tank Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis followed suit, bringing to six the number of websites attacked. One hactivist announced the challenge to commit cyber-crime in social networking site Facebook by a user #pR.isOn3r.  The post hinted in its footnote that the BSP website was a target.

“Challenge Accepted,” the hacktivist said. “If speaking up against idiocy in government and unconstitutional amendments is a crime, then I am PROUD TO BE A CYBER CRIMINAL.”
“We are anonymous. We are Legion. United as one. Divided by none,” the hacktivist said. “The corrupt fear us. The honest support us. The heroic join us. Expect us.”

This attack followed by few more Govt sites and they are- National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Food Development Center sites.

The attack is yet not over, The government portal of  Philippine also faced cyber attack. A twitter account which is recognized as one of of legitimate of source of hacker collective anonymous, took responsibility of engaging denial of service (DoS) attack against www.gov.ph

Anonymous is attacking US Chamber of Commerce website

In protest of the "PROTECT IP" bill, hacker group Anonymous plans to attack the US Chamber of Commerce website Monday evening. Hacktivist group Anonymous plans to launch attack the US Chamber of Commerce website today at 8pm EST, according to a flier posted to 4chan.org and Reddit.com, which urges Internet users to join in the fight. The distributed denial of service (DDoS) campaign is an act of protest against a piece of supposed anti-piracy legislation proposed by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) known as the “Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property” bill, or “PROTECT IP.” Anonymous, known for its campaigns against both corporations and governments around the world who the group believes stifle the free flow of information, argues that, if passed, PROTECT IP “would allow the US Government to force [Internet service providers] and search engines to censor websites they do not like under the guise of ‘copyright protection.’” The online protest was first announced Sunday in a statement released by the group, which reads:
“As pioneers of this new world, it’s our duty to resist and fight those who attempt to stop us. Whether you’re a journalist or blogger, or a participant of Anonymous, or the activists on the ground who protest against these corporate thugs and oppressive regimes and risk everything for freedom of information and speech, we are all in this battle together and we have a responsibility to protect our civil liberties.
“This attack tomorrow will send yet another message to the pigs that run the state that we will not be another cog in the f****d up clock that these corporate entities attempt to preserve through their political puppets in Washington.
“This is our world now and we will fight for it. Take it or leave it.” 
The PROTECT IP bill, a reiteration of the failed COICA bill, would give the US Justice Department broad powers to shut down access to websites it deems “dedicated to infringing activities.” As Anonymous accurately describes, these powers include forcing ISPs to block access to targeted websites, and even requiring search engines, like Google and Bing, to completely remove the websites from their search indexes. Perhaps even more troubling, the bill would also give private citizens — i.e. copyright holders — the ability to request that the government block a websites’ ability to display advertising, or process payments. Anonymous says that, rather than reduce piracy, the bill simply “endangers the free flow of information,” through the use of “domain seizures, ISP blockades, search engine censorship, and the restriction of funding to accused websites,” says Anonymous. All of this, they say, “takes Internet censorship to the next level.” The hacker’s interpretation of the bill, a summary of which leaked online last week, is echoed by a variety of other privacy advocates, who say the legislation is woefully misguided, and will result in rampant government censorship. “Protecting copyright and trademark are of course important objectives,” writes author and technology expert Larry Downes in an analysis of the bill posted to CNet. “But doing so by trampling due process rights, tinkering dangerously with the mechanics of the Internet, and impressing into police duties an expanding set of Internet service providers, hardly seems the best solution.” Anonymous first came into the world spotlight after launching a series of similar attacks on the corporate websites of PayPal, Master Card and Visa, all of which stopped processing donation payments made to whistle blowing website WikiLeaks. Most recently, members of the group were accused by Sony of initiating (or, at least, facilitating) an attack on its PlayStation Network, which resulted in the theft of nearly 13 million user credit cards, and could cost the company upwards of $170 million in damages. Those who wish to join in the DDoS attack — which simply overloads a website’s servers with an overwhelming amount of traffic, causing it to go offline — can join other Anons in the #OperationPayback IRC channel, where countless supporters have gathered to coordinate the attack.

AnonBin - Anonymous Started A New & Secure Alternative of PasteBin 
Hacker collective Anonymous has started a brand new site which will allow users to post material without fear of being tracked down. Anonymous described the new site, dubbed AnonPaste or AnonBin, as a safer site than Pastebin.com, which has been widely used by hackers to post evidence of their exploits. Earlier this month Jeroen Vader, the owner of Pastebin says he planed the make Pastebin censored, and also they will help to crack down hackers who misused pastebin while exposing serious & confidential data. The entire hacker community did maximum criticism of this step, so to keep the anonymity hacker collective Anonymous has started AnonBin which is an opensource online pastebin based off of Zerobin software where the server has zero knowledge of pasted data. Data is encrypted/decrypted in the browser using 256 bits AES. In a joint statement issued Tuesday, Anonymous and a group calling itself the People’s Liberation Front said the new site will allow people to post any material with complete anonymity while keeping the user's identity safe.

Anonymous Strikes Uribe & Defense Ministry (Official Facebook & Twitter Compromised)

The hacker group "Anonymous" on Wednesday took control of the Facebook page of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, the Twitter account of ex-President Alvaro Uribe, and caused a shut-down the website for Colombia's Ministry of Defense. The hackers' offensive took place around 2PM on Colombia's Independence Day.
On Santos' Facebook page, Anonymous posted a link to a YouTube video proclaiming that Colombia was celebrating a "false independence." The video listed what the authors thought was wrong with Colombia. At 5PM, Santos' account was still under control of the hackers, who announced that "surprises" would continue until 6PM. Santos tweeted that he regretted "the interference on the Facebook account on my name and the messages that have been published from there."
Uribe's Twitter account was similarly hacked and featured a link to the same video as well as a new background featuring the Anonymous logo. Uribe tweeted that "my account has been penetrated by terrorists."

The former president's choice of words led to hundreds of Twitter comments under #uribepenetradoremarking on how Anonymous "had penetrated his flower."
The messages posted by Anonymous on the former president's Twitter page were removed within hours while Uribe called Twitter for help, but the politician failed to replace the background which kept showing the hacker collective's logo. Anonymous also appears to have hacked or attacked the Ministry of Defense website. An image of the website with an Anonymous logo has been posted on their twitter account and the website of the ministry was down in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the presidential website was also down, although Anonymous did not claim an attack on that website.
The hacker collective had announced an "independence offensive" on Tuesday, the day before Colombia celebrated its 201st birthday.
Earlier this year, Anonymous hacked the Colombian Senate's website.

Hacktivist Group Anonymous Targeted Pope in Mexico 
After Vatican now Anonymous targeted the Mexico Pope. The hacker group in Mexico crashed at least two of the websites for Pope Benedict XVI’s upcoming visit to Mexico on Thursday, claiming the papal visit is a political move to support the conservative National Action party.
The site contained information on the pope’s planned activities starting Friday in the north-central state of Guanajuato, which is governed by President Felipe Calderon’s National Action Party, or PAN. The Anonymous IberoAmerica website, which has been a channel of communication for such hacker “ops” in the past, said the site crashes were the result of Anonymous operations with names such “Pharisee” and “freeloader.”
Anonymous Mexico said in a video posted on social media sites that the pope’s visit will cost Mexicans money that could be better spent on the poor, and is meant to support the PAN in the July 1 presidential election. PAN candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota is trailing front-runner Enrique Pena Nieto of the Institutional Revolutionary Party by at least 10 percentage points in most polls on the race. The official campaign season starts at the end of this month. The pope’s “visit comes precisely at the start of the electoral campaigns,” said the faceless Anonymous figure in the video. “The PAN will take this as a political weapon to win the votes of millions of Catholics in Mexico.”
Earlier this month Anonymous take responsibility of engaging cyber attack on Vatican official website & Vatican Radio System. The hacker group said - "This attack is not against the Christian religion or the faithful around the world but against the corrupt Roman Apostolic Church," said the statement, posted on the Italian-language version of the Anonymous website.

The whole cyber world can be the witness of bitter relation between hacker collective group Anonymous and the Mexican government. We those who used to observe the cyber domain have already seen several protest campaign came from Anonymous against Mexico, whether it was the Pope or Mexican Drug Cartels or Mexican Govt. sponsored bus organization. Here again the same thing get repeated when the infamous Anonymous targeted  several web sites of Mexico’s defense and navy departments. 
The name of the group "Anonymous Mexico" was visible on the website in front of a black background, with phrases from the manifesto of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN). The group MexicanH Team, which identified itself as part of Anonymous Mexico, said on Twitter that it had hacked and "defaced" the ministry website. In another Twitter account, the group Anonymous Hispano, which uses the handle @anonophispano, claimed that "the entire content" of the defense ministry server was hacked and that it will be "released soon." 
“Brothers and sisters, let’s raise our voices for a Mexico free of corruption, free of crime,” the message said. “Let’s show the world that were are one, we are everyone. We are anonymous. We are legion. We don’t forgive. We don’t forget. Wait for us!” -added by the hacker. 
In response of hacking, the Defense Ministry responded that its website was “momentarily out of service” but did not explain why and did not refer to the hacking claim. But on the other hand the Mexican Navy accommodated the cyber attack and said that- its web site was targeted only by a simple denial-of-service, attack and that no sensitive information was compromised. Later Sedena issued a statement hours later saying that while its Web site was indeed temporarily down, but the department’s internal information and communication systems were “functioning with complete normality.” And After couple of hours all the services and website came back live with proper functionality.

Hacker group Anonymous vows to shut down FOX NEWS. Anon has targeted the FOX NEWS stations for defamation of Occupy Wall Street protesters.

According to the Anonymous Official Press Release:-

We are Anonymous. Fox News is now the target of Anonymous because of their continued propaganda against the Occupations. Those such as Sean Hannity are attacking the credentials as well as the character of the Occupiers at Wall Street, and this can no longer be allowed. Anonymous introduces Operation Fox Hunt. Anonymous intends on destroying the Fox News website because their continued right-wing conservative propaganda can no longer be tolerated. Anonymous Retaliates For Megaupload Shutdown & Bring Down DOJ & FBI (#OpMegaupload)

Federal authorities shut down one of the Web’s most popular sites Thursday on charges that it illegally shared movies, television shows, e-books and so on. In the payback hacktvist Anonymous called #OpMegaupload performed "The Largest Attack Ever" where 5,635 Anon people bring down the websites of Universal Music, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Recording Industry Association of America while using one of the world's most popular and vastly used DDoSer LOIC. 

"The government takes down Megaupload? 15 minutes later Anonymous takes down government and record label sites,"  Tweeted by Anonymous. That note was followed shortly by this one: "Megaupload was taken down w/out SOPA being law. Now imagine what will happen if it passes. The Internet as we know it will end. FIGHT BACK." The tweet referred to the Stop Online Piracy Act, an Internet piracy bill being considered in the U.S. Congress. 
Detailing the attacks, which are being dubbed as the largest performed by the group, via numerous Twitter feeds, @YourAnonNews said: "You cannot censor the internet. You cannot subpoena a hashtag. You cannot arrest an idea. You CAN expect us #OpMegaupload"


The link is a page on the anonymous web hosting site pastehtml. It link loads a web-based version of the program Anonymous has used for years to DDoS websites: Low Orbit Ion Cannon. (LOIC). When activated, LOIC rapidly reloads a target website, and if enough users point LOIC at a site at once, it can crash from the traffic. Judging from a Twitter search, the link is being shared at a rate of about 4 times a minute, mostly by Spanish-speaking users, for some reason. The thing is, DDoSing is a criminal offense that could earn you 10 years in prison, if you do it intentionally. With previous versions of LOIC, participants had to acknowledge this risk and press a button labeled "fire." But now, it appears some enterprising anonymous member has retooled it so that it automatically fires if you click an unassuming link and leave a window open.
Megaupload.com distributed a variety of digital content, including music and movies. Investigators say Megaupload’s executives made more than $175 million through subscription fees and online ads while robbing authors, movie producers, musicians and other copyright holders of more than $500 million. “This action is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States,” the Justice Department and FBI said in a statement.
On Thursday, the U.S. DOJ announced that it had charged seven people who allegedly were affiliated with the site with running an organized criminal enterprise responsible for worldwide online piracy of copyrighted content. The DOJ worked with authorities in New Zealand, who arrested four of the seven people.

I am sure that many of you remember the famous Oscar winning documentary 'The Cove' where the atrocious practice of killing Dolphins have been highlighted. Now it seems that the internet activist have pick that issue very seriously as the world's largest community of international hackers and activist, widely known as Anonymous has rises his voice against a gruesome culture of Dolphin hunting in Japan. The Japanese government has received an online threat from dangerous hacker collective group Anonymous where they vows to engage massive cyber attack against Japan government if they did not stop this cruel practice of killing the rare spices of dolphin near Taiji, Wakayama Prefecture. According to Japanese officials, they have received this bullying message from Anonymous “STOP these slaughters IMMEDIATELY, or get ready to face the extent of our wrath.” In a pastebin release the hacker group has declared 22 high profile Japanese websites on their hit list, including those of the prime minister’s office, Taji, Wakayama Prefecture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.


While following their consuetude, Anonymous has called this campaign Operation KillingBay dubbed #OpKillingBay, where the hacker promised to engage massive cyber attack, in order to damage the Japanese Cyber space. The government has taken this threat very seriously, while looking at the past history of Anonymous and their capabilities, Taiji government and the National Information Security Center have been sent immediate alert since the warning from Anonymous been received. To gain public attention on this very matter the internet activist has already started a project named Save Japan Dolphins, now this contribution of Anonymous will definitely enhance this protest. For updates on this story and also all the other cyber updates stay tuned with VOGH.

Anonymous Gave Warrig to NATO

Responding to a recent report from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization condemning  Anonymous, the online "hacktivist" group has issued a public response warning the global organization not to challenge it. Claiming that the NATO report singled it out as a threat to "government and the people," Anonymous defended some of its recent actions in the name of freedom and dissent. In its message (Google cached version), it also asserted that NATO fears the group not because it's a "threat to society," but because it's a "threat to the established hierarchy."
Issued last month by Lord Joplin, general rapporteur of NATO, the report warned member nations about the rising threat of "hacktivism," or carrying out cyberattacks for political purposes. Singling out Anonymous, NATO described several of the group's most recent actions, including the distributed denial-of-service attacksagainst MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Amazon, and others that had cut off services for WikiLeaks.
Noting that Anonymous has become more sophisticated, the NATO report cautioned that it could hack into sensitive government, military, and corporate information and described a strong response against the group. "Today, the ad hoc international group of hackers and activists is said to have thousands of operatives and has no set rules or membership," said the report. "It remains to be seen how much time Anonymous has for pursuing such paths. The longer these attacks persist the more likely countermeasures will be developed, implemented, the groups will be infiltrated and perpetrators persecuted." In its response, Anonymous tried to soften its stance in parts by saying that it doesn't want to threaten anyone's way of life or terrorize any nation. But it made clear its reaction to NATO's report. "Finally, do not make the mistake of challenging Anonymous," warned Anonymous in its message. "Do not make the mistake of believing you can behead a headless snake. If you slice off one head of Hydra, ten more heads will grow in its place. If you cut down one Anon, ten more will join us purely out of anger at your trampling of dissent." NATO's report also provided a larger look into the growing danger of cyberattacks and how governments should respond to them. In the report, Joplin asked the question of how NATO should react if one of its member nations was the victim of a cyberattack. "Can one invoke Article 5 of the Washington Treaty after a cyber attack?" asked the report. "And what response mechanisms should the Alliance employ against the attacker? Should the retaliation be limited to cyber means only, or should conventional military strikes also be considered? Both the U.S. and the U.K. have recently made their own positions clear--that they consider cyberwarfare another form of warfare, and one potentially subject to a response using conventional military weapons.

Facebook Outage in Many European Countries Not Caused By Anonymous But DNS Problem 

World's most popular and largest social network Facebook faced another downtime. This time the outage effected millions of users in European countries including Denmark, France, Norway, Germany and Italy. After June this is the second outage which effected large number of Facebook users. Last time Facebook users faced disturbance while using their favorite social network. Facebook users across the globe experienced log-in difficulties for several hour. But this time, the social networking giant remain down for a decent time. The outage may have caused Facebook’s share price to go down. For a site with 900 million users worldwide, even a minor outage has a huge effect. Like the June issue, here also hacker collective came first and took credit of the outage. According to a twitter account of the hacktivist group named  Anonymous Own3r, took responsibility of the outage, In his tweet he claimed to figure out several vulnerabilities in Facebook, which causes the outage. In a pastebin note, the hacker publishes those so called vulnerabilities. Also in his tweet the hacker claimed to have control in many servers owned by Facebook. 

But Facebook completely denies the hacker attack & said the cause of the outage was nothing but DNS issue, neither hacker attack nor DDoS.  Here we want yo give you reminder that in 2011 Anonymous openly declared to take down Facebook. The operation was dubbed #Op-Facebook and Anonymous told that they will hit FB on the 5th of November last year. But in reality it was just a threat and as expected Anonymous failed to execute Operation Facebook. Later in June this year, Anonymous took credit for a couple of hours outage of Facebook, and here again Anonymous affiliated member repeated the same story, which again proves completely baseless, and in short it was nothing but a publicity stunt. 

In case of large social network like Facebook, such kind of DNS issues can be happened. Whatever immediately after this outage Facebook released a statement saying -
"There has not been a hack of Facebook. We have investigated these claims, and they are not valid. The evidence cited was produced by an automated vulnerability scanner that alerts developers of potential vulnerability, and we have found these all to be false alerts.
We expect Anonymous just like we expect any other attack on any other day. Due to our size, we face the same threats as seen everywhere else on the Web, but we have developed partnerships, back-end systems, and protocols to confront the full range of security challenges we face. Facebook has always been committed to protecting our users’ information, and we will continue to innovate and work tirelessly to defend this data.
Earlier (Thursday), we made a change to DNS as part of a traffic-optimization test, and that change resulted in some users being temporarily misrouted. We detected and resolved the issue immediately, but a small number of users located primarily in Western Europe experienced issues accessing the site while the DNS addresses repopulated. We are now back to 100 percent, and we apologize for any inconvenience..."
