Metro Version Of Firefox Will Available on Windows 8

There are lots of addition and subtraction is going with the upcoming Microsoft Windows 8 & Windows on ARM.Microsoft's browser rivals to publicly commit to a Metro edition. Microsoft has said it will ship both Metro and traditional desktop versions of Internet Explorer 10. Metro is Microsoft's label for the touch-enabled interface at the center of both Windows 8 and WOA. Windows 8 will run Metro and traditional 32- and 64-bit Windows applications, but WOA will run only those third-party apps designed for Metro. Not only IE but also Firefox will follow the same trend. Mozilla confirms that it will build a "proof-of-concept" version of Firefox for Windows 8's Metro touch-first interface next quarter, then follow that with more functional editions later in the year. Mozilla Said:- "This proposal depends on Microsoft providing the same capabilities for Firefox as it does for IE -- running at the Medium level integrity process that allows us the full use of the Win32 API and what we need from Metro, or a set of APIs that allow Mozilla to port Gecko to the WinRT. For the purposes of this feature proposal, I'm assuming we'll get the first and we won't have to port the bulk of Gecko and instead will use the win32 dlls from within Metro."
Feature Overview:-
- Windows 8 contains two application environments, "Classic" and "Metro". Classic is very similar to the Windows 7 environment at this time, it requires a simple evolution of the current Firefox Windows product. Metro is an entirely new environment and requires a new Firefox front end and system integration points.
- The feature goal here is a new Gecko based browser built for and integrated with the Metro environment.
- Firefox on Metro, like all other Metro apps will be full screen, focused on touch interactions, and connected to the rest of the Metro environment through Windows 8 contracts.
- Firefox on Metro will bring all of the Gecko capabilities to this new environment and the assumption is that we'll be able to run as a Medium integrity app so we can access all of the win32 Firefox Gecko libraries avoiding a port to the new WinRT API for the bulk of our code. (Though we will need to have a pan and zoom capability for content.)
- We will need to determine if the Firefox front end on Metro will be built in XUL, C/C++, or HTML/CSS/JS (I'm assuming for now that .Net and XAML are off the table.)
- Firefox on Metro is a full-screen App with an Appbar that contains common navigation controls (back, reload, etc.,) the Awesomebar, and some form of tabs.
- Firefox will have to support three "snap" states -- full screen, ~1/6th screen and ~5/6th screen depending on how the user "docks" two full screen apps. Our UI will need to adjust to show the most relevant content for each size.
- In order to provide users with access to other content, other apps, and to Firefox from other content and apps, we'll need integration with the share contract, the search contract, the settings contract, the app to app picking contract, the print contract, the play to contract, and possibly a couple more. We'll be a source for some, a target for some, and both for some.
- We'll need to handle being suspended by the OS when out of view.
- We may want to offer a live tile with user-centric data like friends presence or other Firefox Home information updates
- Ideally we'd be able to create secondary tiles for Web-based apps hosted in Firefox's runtime.

Windows Phone App Analyser By David Rook aka SecurityNinja
David Rook, (aka SecurityNinja) has officially released Windows Phone App Analyser. Version 1.0 of the application allows for the evaluation of Windows Phone 7 .xap files and supports the automatic decompilation of the .dll files within them. The tool is inspired by static security analysis tool Agnitio, also from Security Ninja, and presents a tree view of the contents of the .xap file allowing manual review of the files; clicking on .dll files decompiles them to .cs files for viewing or passing to an automated review using CAT.NET or FxCop. The Windows Phone App Analyser also allows researchers to run Microsoft's own Capabilities Detection tool which works out what capabilities the app uses and allows comparison with the app's manifest declarations.
Key Features Of Windows Phone App Analyser :-
- Analyse Windows Phone application source code from a security point of view.
- Automatically decompile Windows Phone .xap application to easily analyse the original source code
- Launch and review results from third party scanning tools (CAT.NET, FxCop and the capabilities detection tool).
Features such as keyword editor, store paths to scanning tools so you don’t have to browse to them, option to automatically execute automated scans etc., will be included in the next couple of releases.

SSLSmart is a highly flexible and interactive tool aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the false positives during SSL testing. Among other things, SSLSmart simply an advanced and highly flexible Ruby based smart SSL cipher enumeration tool. It is an open source, cross platform, free tool. It was programmed because a number of tools on the Windows platform allow users to test for supported SSL ciphers suites, but most only provide testers with a fixed set of cipher suites. Further testing is performed by initiating an SSL socket connection with one cipher suite at a time, an inefficient approach that leads to false positives and often does not provide a clear picture of the true vulnerability of the server. SSLSmart is designed to combat these shortcomings.
Features:-
- Content Scan (default): Exact server response can be seen in HTML and Text forms for each cipher suite selected for the test URL. Basically, it shows various server error messages received for weak cipher suites from live systems.
- CONNECT Scan: Focuses only on success or failure of SSL socket connection with various cipher suites. This behavior does not offer any advantage over existing SSL testing tools and is thus likely to have similar issues with false positives. However, this scan is faster and consumes fewer network and CPU resources.
- Dynamic Cipher Suite Support: Most SSL testing tools provide a fixed set of cipher suites. SSLSmart hooks into Ruby OpenSSL bindings and offers dynamic “on the fly” cipher suite generation capabilities.
- Certificate Verification: SSLSmart performs server certificate verification. It uses the Firefox Root CA Certificate4 repository to perform Root CA verification. Additional Root CA Certificates can be added to the rootcerts.pem file or a custom .pem file can be supplied for Root CA Certificate verification.
- Proxy Support: SSLSmart provides web proxy support. For results to be accurate, it is important to use a transparent proxy5.
- Reporting: Reports can be generated in XML, HTML and Text formats along with their verbose versions. Verbose report versions include complete application response for each cipher suite and full details of the server certificate.
- API’s: Monkey patched Ruby API’s that form the backbone of SSLSmart can be consumed to write custom Ruby scripts for quick tests. These API’s can be consumed by users who work with the SSLSmart gem.
Supported Platforms:-
SSLSmart has been tested to work on the following platforms and versions of Ruby:
Windows: Ruby 1.8.6 with wxruby6 (2.0.0) and builder7 (2.1.2).
Linux: Ruby 1.8.7/1.9.1 with wxruby (2.0.0) and builder (2.1.2).

Highly critical Zero-day vulnerability found in Windows 7. This security flaws can be exploited via Apple Safari browser. This was first made public via a twitter user named
w3bd3vil
"<iframe height='18082563'></iframe> causes a BSoD [blue screen of death] on win 7 x64 via Safari. Lol!"
It is reported that vulnerability affects fully patched Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and cautioned that other versions may be affected. The remotely exploitable vulnerability, caused by an error in win32k.sys, enables a hacker to run arbitrary code -- such as malware -- on a victim's machine when he or she visits a specially crafted Web page using Safari. Specifically, the Web page would simply need to contain an iFrame -- an HTML element that is typically used to pull content from other sources onto a Web page -- with an overly large "height" attribute.

The experience of signing in to your PC with touch has traditionally been a cumbersome one. In a world with increasingly strict password requirements—with numbers, symbols, and capitalization—it can take upwards of 30 seconds to enter a long, complex password on a touch keyboard. To get rid of all these stuffs Microsoft is introducing a new technology. Using that you can login ti your Windows 8 PC with a picture password. Likely designed for touchscreens, users are prompted with a familiar picture of their choice and asked to make a series of finger gestures on the screen to setup password protection. Microsoft recommends that users pick at least three gestures and can choose between a circle, a tap and a line drawn between two points. When a user logs into a Windows 8 machine using Picture Password, they simply have to replicate the correct placement, order and direction of all gestures.
Microsoft dictates the set of three different gestures after research showed that login time was cut from 17 seconds using free form gestures to 4 seconds using preset gestures. Users don’t have to be 100 percent accurate with the placement of the gestures as the image is broken up into a grid and the combination of replicating the three gestures is assigned a percentage score each time the login process is attempted through an algorithm. If the score is 90 percent or above, the user gains access to the system. Microsoft also outlined how security is increased with the Picture Password method. For instance, if a user creates a six-character text password with at least one uppercase letter and one number, there would be 7 billion combinations available. However, if a user creates a picture password with six gestures using only taps, that number increases to 1.3 trillion combinations. Even further, reducing the amount of gestures to five and including at least one circle and one line gesture within the group increases the number of combinations to approximately 70 trillion. The Windows engineering team has just started building the Picture Password functionality and hopes to include it within the final version of Windows 8 likely released during 2012.

Zero day
vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat Reader has been fixed. There have been reports of two critical vulnerabilities being actively exploited in limited, targeted attacks in the wild against
Adobe Reader 9.x on Windows. These vulnerabilities
(CVE-2011-2462, referenced in Security Advisory APSA11-04, and CVE-2011-4369) could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
While these vulnerabilities exist in Adobe Reader X (10.1.1) and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh, Adobe Reader 9.4.6 and earlier 9.x versions for UNIX, and Adobe Acrobat X (10.1.1) and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh, there is no immediate risk to users of Adobe Reader and Acrobat X for Windows (with Protected Mode/Protected View enabled), Adobe Reader and Acrobat X or earlier versions for Macintosh, and Adobe Reader 9.x for UNIX based on the current exploits and historical attack patterns.
Adobe recommends users of Adobe Acrobat 9.4.6 and earlier 9.x versions for Windows update to Adobe Acrobat 9.4.7. Because Adobe Reader X Protected Mode and Adobe Acrobat X Protected View would prevent an exploit of the type currently targeting these vulnerabilities (CVE-2011-2462 and CVE-2011-4369) from executing, we are planning to address these issues in Adobe Reader and Acrobat X for Windows with the next quarterly security update for Adobe Reader and Acrobat, scheduled for January 10, 2012. We are planning to address these issues in Adobe Reader and Acrobat X and earlier versions for Macintosh as part of the next quarterly update scheduled for January 10, 2012. An update to address these issues in Adobe Reader 9.x for UNIX is planned for January 10, 2012.

Tor 0.2.3.9-alpha introduces initial IPv6 support for bridges, adds a "DisableNetwork" security feature that bundles can use to avoid touching the network until bridges are configured, moves forward on the pluggable transport design, fixes a flaw in the hidden service design that unnecessarily prevented clients with wrong clocks from reaching hidden services, and fixes a wide variety of other issues.
Features:-
- Clients can now connect to private bridges over IPv6. Bridges still need at least one IPv4 address in order to connect to other relays. Note that we don't yet handle the case where the user has two bridge lines for the same bridge (one IPv4, one IPv6). Implements parts of proposal 186.
- New "DisableNetwork" config option to prevent Tor from launching any connections or accepting any connections except on a control port.
- Bundles and controllers can set this option before letting Tor talk to the rest of the network, for example to prevent any connections to a non-bridge address. Packages like Orbot can also use this option to instruct Tor to save power when the network is off.
- Clients and bridges can now be configured to use a separate "transport" proxy. This approach makes the censorship arms race easier by allowing bridges to use protocol obfuscation plugins. It implements the "managed proxy" part of proposal 180 (ticket 3472).
- When using OpenSSL 1.0.0 or later, use OpenSSL's counter mode implementation. It makes AES_CTR about 7% faster than our old one (which was about 10% faster than the one OpenSSL used to provide). Resolves ticket 4526.
- Add a "tor2web mode" for clients that want to connect to hidden services non-anonymously (and possibly more quickly). As a safety measure to try to keep users from turning this on without knowing what they are doing, tor2web mode must be explicitly enabled at compile time, and a copy of Tor compiled to run in tor2web mode cannot be used as a normal Tor client. Implements feature 2553.
- Add experimental support for running on Windows with IOCP and no kernel-space socket buffers. This feature is controlled by a new "UserspaceIOCPBuffers" config option (off by default), which has no effect unless Tor has been built with support for bufferevents, is running on Windows, and has enabled IOCP. This may, in the long run, help solve or mitigate bug 98.
- Use a more secure consensus parameter voting algorithm. Now at least three directory authorities or a majority of them must vote on a given parameter before it will be included in the consensus. Implements proposal 178.
Major Bugfixes:-
- Hidden services now ignore the timestamps on INTRODUCE2 cells.
- They used to check that the timestamp was within 30 minutes of their system clock, so they could cap the size of their replay-detection cache, but that approach unnecessarily refused service to clients with wrong clocks. Bugfix on 0.2.1.6-alpha, when the v3 intro-point protocol (the first one which sent a timestamp field in the INTRODUCE2 cell) was introduced; fixes bug 3460.
- Only use the EVP interface when AES acceleration is enabled, to avoid a 5-7% performance regression. Resolves issue 4525; bugfix on 0.2.3.8-alpha.
Privacy/Anonymity Features (bridge detection):-
- Make bridge SSL certificates a bit more stealthy by using random serial numbers, in the same fashion as OpenSSL when generating self-signed certificates. Implements ticket 4584.
- Introduce a new config option "DynamicDHGroups", enabled by default, which provides each bridge with a unique prime DH modulus to be used during SSL handshakes. This option attempts to help against censors who might use the Apache DH modulus as a static identifier for bridges. Addresses ticket 4548.

A remote code execution vulnerability has been discovered in the Microsoft Windows TCP/IP stack. This vulnerability occurs when Windows processes a continuous flow of specially crafted UDP packets. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a continuous flow of specially crafted UDP packets to a closed port on a target system, resulting in an integer overflow. Successful exploitation could allow attackers to run arbitrary code with kernel mode privileges. This could allow attackers to install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
Affected System:-
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008

Microsoft released a temporary fix for the recently found Applocker bypass vulnerabilities that allows untrusted users to bypass security measures preventing them from running unauthorized applications.
Brief About Applocker:-
AppLocker allows administrators to restrict the applications that can be run on computers running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. But end users can easily override the restrictions by invoking a variety of automated script features, including macros in Microsoft Office. Programming flags such as SANDBOX_INERT and LOAD_IGNORE_CODE_AUTHZ_LEVEL could even allow malware stashed in temporary folders to be executed.
Microsoft released a hotfix to correct this flaw. "This hotfix might receive additional testing," Microsoft's advisory stated. "Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix."

After Nokia drive get hacked now the Nokia XDA developper has confirmed that
Nokia Map get hacked Nokia Maps and is now available for all Windows Phone 7 (WP7) devices . The new app launched with the
Lumia 710 and 800 would very soon be available for other WP7 devices as well according to Nokia, but now you can test it out now by downloading the
XAP file.
The app can only be installed in a unlocked WP7 device (dev-unlock or ChevronWP7 Labs). Nokia Maps is was developed specifically for their new line of WP7 phones and Nokia were banking on this as one of their key selling points. Now that two exclusive apps have already been leaked at a very early stage even before the phones hit the market, it hurt the sales of the new devices as they loose some of the exclusivity. At this point, Nokia can’t really do much about this, but just wait and hope that the new Lumia duo has enough going for it for them to stand out in the competition.
