LulzSec Hacker Jeremy Hammond Sentenced to 120 Months in Prison For Stratfor Hack

Infamous hacker Jeremy Hammond convicted by the Judge for cyber-attacks on government agencies and businesses, including a global intelligence company. This 28 year old Chicago hacker who is also known as "Anarchaos" was arrested by the federal authorities and been charged for the  breach of the security analysis company Stratfor. In December last year the bail application of Hammond was also been rejected by the the U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska. On June this year Hammond pleaded guilty for his sin. In his statement he said "I have pleaded guilty, it is a relief to be able to say that I did work with Anonymous to hack Stratfor, among other websites." 

That guilty plea indeed worked out for him, as that time it was predicated that Hammond  might have to face 30 years in prison, but on Friday Judge Loretta Preska sentenced Hammond to 120 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for illegally accessing computers systems of law enforcement agencies and government contractors. In an emotional proceeding that lasted more than 2 hours in a Manhattan federal court room on Friday, victims and relatives of Hammond railed against the FBI and shed tears on his behalf following the sentencing. One overwrought person claiming to be a victim was forcibly escorted from the court by officers. But Hammond likely knew the sentence was coming, his lawyer said. "When Jeremy took this plea with a 10-year maximum, I think he understood this was very likely the outcome," said Sarah Kunstler, Hammond's defense attorney outside of court house.

Chief U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska said Hammond's digital handiwork had compromised thousands of people's personal and financial data, including the unpublished phone numbers and addresses of law enforcement, who then received threats. Hammond tried unsuccessfully to argue that his actions were politically motivated, she said. Hammond pleaded guilty to a single charge with a 10-year maximum sentence. Still his lawyers are asking to reduce his punishment for a sentence of 20 months.

Hammond has been held without bail since his arrest in March on charges connected with last year's hacking of Strategic Forecasting, or Stratfor, an Austin, Texas-based international intelligence broker, by AntiSec, an offshoot of LulzSec, which is in turn an offshoot of the hacktivist collective Anonymous. Prosecutors say the hack of Austin, Texas-based Strategic Forecasting resulted in the theft of 60,000 credit-card numbers and records for 860,000 clients. The government alleges that he published some of that information online, and used some of the stolen credit card data to run up at least $700,000 in unauthorized charges. He is also accused of giving about five million internal emails to WikiLeaks, which were published under the name The Global Intelligence Files.

Anonymous Hacker Denied Bail in Singapore, Accused For Hacking Prime Minister Website

A Singapore court in this week has denied bail of accused anonymous hacker charged for hacking high value government websites. Last month a Singaporean hacker named James Raj was extradited from Malaysia. He was charged for hacking the Ang Mo Kio district website, whose MPs include Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, under the banner of worlds most dangerous hacktivist community Anonymous. The alleged hacking was among a string of cyber attacks that have also targeted the websites of Premier Lee and President Tony Tan as well as pro-government media, in a row over Internet freedom in the city state. This 35 years old hacker was deeply linked with Anonymous and he was covered himself with nickname "The Messiah".  District Judge Soh Tze Bian said Raj, posed a flight risk because he previously jumped bail and fled to Malaysia after being slapped with illegal drugs consumption charges in 2011. 

Police have previously said Raj was also linked to other hacking attacks, including on the website of a charity associated with the ruling People's Action Party. Two Singaporean men have so far been charged with defacing the president's website. Police have said that there are no links between Raj and these suspects. 

The round of attack from Raj took place three days before a self-proclaimed spokesperson for Anonymous appeared in a video on October 31 to demand the scrapping of a recent Singapore law requiring news websites to obtain annual licences. The Internet licensing rules, which came into effect in June, have sparked anger among bloggers and activists who say they are designed to muzzle free expression. Singapore strictly regulates the traditional media, but insists the recent licensing rules do not impinge on Internet freedom.

Mastercard.com Down (Wikileaks Motivated the DDOS Attack)

MasterCard's website is currently inaccessible following what appears to be a WikiLeaks-inspired internet attack against it. In what appears to be the latest salvo by hactivists, the mastercard.com website is thought to be suffering from a denial-of-service attack - where an internet site is bombarded with a large amount of traffic making it impossible for genuine visitors to access it.

A Twitter user called ibomhacktivist seems to be taking responsibility for the attack, and links the action to the WikiLeaks-inspired attack on MasterCard by the Anonymous group last year.

MasterCard angered the hacktivist community after it suspended the ability for WikiLeaks to accept payments via the firm. Police in the Netherlands arrested two teenagers for allegedly playing their part in the attacks last year. WikiLeaks is a subject which tends to generate strong emotions - whether you're in favour of what the organisation stands for, or against it.

Computer users would be wise, however, to remember that even if you feel WikiLeaks is being persecuted by the authorities or abandoned by online companies, denial-of-service attacks are still illegal.

#OccupyOakland Anonymous Performed DDoS Attack On Oakland Police & Exposed Confidential Data

Another Occupy Wall Street protest by Anonymous. Previously Anonymous Hacked IACP & Exposed 600 MB of Personal Data and this time the target was Oakland police. Members of the 'hacktivist' launched a DDOS attack that brought down the main web site of the Oakland Police Department for much of last night, cracked at least part of the security on an Oakland city government server and posted information on the names and data structure of Oakland city servers and the names, addresses and other personal data on Oakland police.

Members of the group have also put out the call for more hacked data and offered a $1,000 reward for specific data on the officer who fired the riot-control weapon that critically injured Iraq War veteran Scott Olsen. Olsen, a former Marine who participated in the protest Tuesday night, was apparently struck in the head by either a tear-gas canister or flash-bang grenade fired by Oakland riot police during a violent effort to drive OccupyOakland protesters off the streets.

"#OccupyOakland has come under attack from city police, who now appear to be calling in reinforcements from Palo Alto. A protester who did two tours in Iraq is in critical condition with fractured skull and brain injury after a cop shot him in the head with a "non-lethal" weapon. A crowd of protesters were deliberately hit with a flashbang while rendering first aid to an injured protester. Police claimed in a recent press release that "no injuries" have been reported so far.

These are among the most disturbing and criminal acts to be have been proven on the part of U.S. police since NYPD officers were outed as having routinely planted drugs on suspects earlier this month. The time has come to retaliate against Oakland police via all non-violent means, beginning with doxing of individual officers and particularly higher-ups involved in the department's conduct of late.

According to the official you tube video release Anon declared that  to hack Muslim Brotherhood websites, starting with the Arabic Ikhwanonline.com, next November 11, 2011, describing the MB as a threat to the revolution. The video, circulated widely on social media, was titled "Operation Brotherhood Take Down".
Khaled Hamza, CEO of Ikhwan Portal which manages MB websites, stated that the MB technical teams and engineers will deal with the message of "Anonymous" as a serious threat, and will take necessary measures to secure its websites.

This time the site was unavailable for over 30 minutes in countries all over the world from Europe through to Asia. As expected the reason behind this outage is massive denial of service attack. According to the report of Telegraph an infamous hacker group named Underground Nazi also known as UG Nazi affiliated with hacktivist LulzSec, immediately, claimed responsibility for the downage attributing it to a prolonged DDoS attack. A lady hacker codenamed Cosmo, claimed taking down the site had been 'surprisingly simple'. "It wasn't really difficult at all, I myself honestly thought Twitter would be more protected from a DDoS Attack, but I guess not," she added. 

Meanwhile twitter completely denied the whole phenomena. A spokesman for Twitter said the issue was caused by 'a cascaded bug in one of our infrastructure components'. He declined to say whether it was a technical failure or a malicious attack.

Security researcher figure out seirous flaws in software for specialized networking equipment from Siemens could enable hackers to attack US power plants and other critical systems. A security expert said that he had found a backdoor in hardware from a Siemens subsidiary. The alleged flaw was made public by security researcher Justin W Clarke at a conference in Los Angeles. The equipment is widely used by power companies mainly based on US. Clarke said that the discovery of the flaw is disturbing because hackers who can spy on communications of infrastructure operators could gain credentials to access computer systems that control power plants and other critical systems. "If you can get to the inside, there is almost no authentication, there are almost no checks and balances to stop you," Clarke said.

The Department of Homeland Security said it was in contact with the firm to assess the claim. After this issue came in-front, the US Govt immeditely taken stpes & investigating the whole scenario. RuggedCom, a Canadian subsidiary of Siemens that sells networking equipment for use in harsh environments such as areas with extreme weather, said it was investigating Clarke's findings, but declined to elaborate. This is the second bug that Clarke, a high school graduate who never attended college, has discovered in products from RuggedCom, which are widely used by power companies that rely on its equipment to support communications to remote power stations.

In May, RuggedCom released an update to its Rugged Operating System software after Clarke discovered that it had a previously undisclosed "back door" account that could give hackers remote access to the equipment with an easily obtained password. The Department of Homeland Security's Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team, which is known as ICS-CERT, said in its advisory on Tuesday that government analysts were working with RuggedCom and Clarke to figure out how to best mitigate any risks from the newly identified vulnerability. "According to this report, the vulnerability can be used to decrypt SSL traffic between an end-user and a RuggedCom network device," Read the full advisory.

A hacktivist group claiming to be the part of infamous LulzSec, targeted the official website of Argentinian Ministry of Defense. This round of cyber attack taken sensitive data from Ministry of Defense server, along with that the index page also get defaced by the hacker group calling them selves 'LulzSec Peru'. The leaked data, allegedly said “top secret” documents from the ministry’s systems has been posted on AnonPaste. The total leak is almost 100 megabytes in size, contains information on submarines, radars and weapons. It also contains user details such as usernames, passwords, the names of officials and other sensitive information. The release on AnonPaste also did satire of the cyber security system of Argentinian Ministry while saying "According to statements by the DEPARTMENT OF ARGENTINA DEFENSE the computer systems area say they had a system impossible to hack, thing turned otherwise. The event should not be taken as terrorism, was for the simple fact to prove that the system was totally vulnerable. The documents contain highly sensitive material rated SECRET (aircraft, submarines, guns)..."

As per sources the data dump, leaked by the hacker was indeed stolen from Ministry's system, also the deface mirror on Zone-H is showing that the official website was indeed hacked and defaced. Though the officials of Argentinian Ministry did not commented about this incident. After the hack was spotted on the wild, the authorities restored their system, and the website came back to its normal format very soon.

Anonymous Exposed Personal Details of 16K Fins (#Op Justice El Salvador)

Yesterday we told that Online "hacktivist" group Anonymous has attacked the websites of El Salvador's presidency and government ministries. Later in "Operation Justice El Salvador" Anon hacked and exposed the private informations of 16K members application database containing personal data of some applicants from all around the country. 

In the official Release Anon Said:-

"We have no tolerance for any group based on racial, sexual and religion discrimination as well as for all the people belonging to them and sharing their ideologies, which is the reason why we decided to carry out last Monday's attack"

Before Anonymous took responsibility for the leak, it was unknown how the published data was collected. But the hacker organization says that it has "externally supported the hacking of several Finnish websites' databases containing personal and sensitive info of thousands of citizens residing in Finland."The reason behind the hacks? "We care about digital security and We decided to see whether Finnish authorities, companies and institutions offer their users a proper security and safely treat and store their info," they wrote. "Sadly, We found out they never did. Getting into websites and databases was as easy as cutting butter with a knife: all We have used were elementary SQL injections, something everyone can do by simply searching for an SQL injection manual on the web."

Anonymous posted all the exposed credentials on 4 separate pastebin links. Later all those links removed for security reason.

Julian Assange may be holed up at the Ecuadorian embassy in London where he is seeking political asylum, but that hasn't stopped British law enforcement officials from serving him a letter of extradition. According to reports, the letter, penned by none other than Scotland Yard, demanded the 40-year-old Assange visit a police station "at a time of our choosing." "This is standard procedure in extradition cases and is the first step in the removal process," a Scotland Yard spokesperson told the press. "He remains in breach of his bail conditions and failure to surrender would be a further breach of those conditions and he is liable to arrest."

Assange entered the Ecuadorian embassy in London on June 19 after all attempts to fight extradition to Sweden - where the WikiLeaks founder faces charges of sexual assault - failed. Assange, who denies the accusations, is concerned that extradition to Sweden could ultimately lead to his eventual transfer to the United States. Then earlier in this year hacktivist Anonymous stood against the extradition of the Wikileaks founder
He denies the accusations but has lost a string of appeals in British courts to avoid being handed over to Sweden’s judiciary for questioning. Assange says his chief fear is that this would lead to further extradition to the United States, where he could face trial for Wikileaks’ actions. He was under house arrest with an order to present himself daily to the nearest police station when he broke bail and took refuge in the Ecuadorean Embassy. The customary dry statement from Scotland Yard announced that authorities had issued “a surrender notice upon a 40-year-old man that requires him to attend a police station at date and time of our choosing. This is standard practice in extradition cases and is the first step in the removal process.”
The statement added he was in breach of bail conditions and would be subject to arrest if he failed to surrender. On Sunday, Ecuadorean Ambassador Anna Alban flew to her homeland to brief the government there on Assange’s situation. Assange is supported by WikiLeaks fans from all over the world who in the past appeared at Assange’s every public appearance with banners saying “Free Assange, Free Bradley Manning,” the latter a reference to the U.S. Army analyst who awaits trial in the United States on charges of releasing the original discs with the official documents published by WikiLeaks.

“There is a strong likelihood that once in Sweden, he would be imprisoned and ... likely extradited to the United States," they stated, adding: "Were he charged and found guilty under the Espionage Act, Assange could face the death penalty.”

More trouble coming towards LulzSec, as the bail appeal of former LulzSec hacker Jeremy Hammond has been denied by the court. Hammond widely known as "Anarchaos" have to face a potential sentence of 30 years to life for alleged hacking crimes is probably enough to get the attention of most 27-year-olds. And that is what U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska told Hammond last week that he could face if he is convicted on all counts. Hammond, much better known in the world of hactivism by various online aliases including "Anarchaos," "sup_g," "burn," "yohoho," "POW," "tylerknowsthis," and "crediblethreat," has been held without bail since his arrest in March on charges connected with last year's hacking of Strategic Forecasting, or Stratfor, an Austin, Texas-based international intelligence broker, by AntiSec, an offshoot of LulzSec, which is in turn an offshoot of the hacktivist collective Anonymous.

The three-count federal indictment, brought in the Southern District of New York, charged him with conspiracy to commit computer hacking, computer hacking and conspiracy to commit access device fraud. More specifically, the government alleges that starting last December, Hammond and others from AntiSec stole information from about 860,000 Stratfor subscribers, including emails, account information, and data from about 60,000 credit cards. The government alleges that he published some of that information online, and used some of the stolen credit card data to run up at least $700,000 in unauthorized charges. He is also accused of giving about five million internal emails to WikiLeaks, which were published under the name The Global Intelligence Files.

Apparently unknown to Hammond, however, was that the then-leader of AntiSec, Hector Xavier Monsegur, a New York hacker known by the alias "Sabu," had been arrested the previous June and agreed to cooperate with the FBI. So, at least some of the Stratfor information Hammond uploaded was to a honey pot server maintained by the FBI. At a hearing last week, Hammond was denied bail, based on Judge Preska's determination that he was both a danger to the community and a flight risk. He had also recently been added to the Terrorist Watch List, said Sue Crabtree, a member of the Jeremy Hammond Solidarity Network and a spectator at his bail hearing. Crabtree said Hammond didn't even have a passport. The bail denial sparked another round of protest from Hammond's supporters. Anonymous published a message on Pastebin demanding that Preska recuse herself for conflict of interest. The group said her husband, Thomas J. Kavaler, was among Stratfor's clients, and therefore one of the alleged victims of the hack. Kavaler is a partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP in New York City.

"Judge Preska by proxy is a victim of the very crime she intends to judge Jeremy Hammond for," Anonymous wrote in a message posted last Friday. "Judge Preska has failed to disclose the fact that her husband is a client of Stratfor and recuse herself from Jeremy's case, therefore violating multiple Sections of Title 28 of the United States Code."

Beyond that, a writer identified only as "NA" on the website FreeHammond.com, argued that "Hacktivists are not criminals! Jeremy is alleged of a crime that has exposed the corruption and exploitation of the very State prosecuting him," and suggested entrapment by the FBI as well.

Renowned security expert Kevin Mitnick said it is possible that the government is trying to scare Hammond to get him to cooperate. Or, it could be designed to send a message to Anonymous members that what they view as sticking it to the man could yield some very serious consequences. Hammond is scheduled to go to trial sometime next year.

An Anonymous Member Took Responsibility of Cyberattack on Wikileaks

A Twitter user who claims affiliation to the infamous Anonymous hacktivist collective has claimed responsibility for launching denial of service attacks that floored WikiLeaks on Tuesday night. The attack against the whistle-blowing site occurred at the same time as less high-profile assaults against Pastebin and 4Chan, the anarchic image board and birthplace of Anonymous.
The assaults were reportedly field trials for a new JavaScript-based DDoS tool, dubbed RefRef, designed to exploit SQL server flaws on targeted websites. RefRef is the successor to the notorious LOIC attack tool, which discloses users' IP address by default, as many arrested hacktivists now know only too well.

"As we returned from our days of hibernation, we have noticed that some may have took claim of developing #RefRef. We have seem the blatantly fake www.RefRef.org, and some more accounts that have taken claim to #RefRef – They are simply not true.
RefRef will be released to the public on September 17th. 2011, and any code you may have stumbled upon is strictly false. It is JavaScript, not Perl.
And to prove the fact that #RefRef is still in the works, we tested it again, not on (@Pastebin) – sorry we still owe you for that one, but on (@WikiLeaks) www.WikiLeaks.org . This was a #RefRef test, and again, it worked flawlessly."

Anonymous began with attacks against the Church of Scientology three years ago, but only gained mainstream fame when it launched denial of service attacks in support of WikiLeaks and against financial service firms that shut down accounts maintained by the whistle-blowing websites.
A Twitter account (@AnonCMD) linked to an Anonymous activist refers to a "personal vendetta against WikiLeaks" adding that "we are sorry we took you down. We are even"

Well know hacker group TeaMp0isoN has claimed that they have successfully breached the T-Mobile of US. According to softpedia this hacker group has exploited the SQL-i vulnerability on the t-mobile.com and newsroom.t-mobile.com web sites. TeaMp0isoN released a pastebin where they gave mentioned the entire data breach including name, e-mail address, phone number, passwords of US Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Mobile USA staffs.

Earlier the infamous hacktivist collective TeaMp0isoN was directly involved with Anonymous in #OpRobinHood #OpCensorThis. Also they have found SQL-i vulnerability on the Official NASA forum, and like this attack TeaMp0isoN also hacked English Defence League (EDL) and exposed members personal data & many more.

Couple of days ago infamous Lulzsec or Lulz Security confirmed that they will sail the boat again from 1st April. In a twitter account of FawkesSecurity tweeted about this. Many of us taken that as a April fool joke but today a group of hackers claiming to be the reborn Lulz Security (LulzSec) took credit for an alleged compromise of MilitarySingles.com, a dating website for military personnel, and the leak of over 170937 account details from its database. The Pastebin post included links to RAR archives hosted on public file sharing websites that allegedly contain the names, usernames, e-mail addresses, IP addresses, and passwords of 163,792 MilitarySingles.com users. 

"There are emails such as @us.army.mil ; @carney.navy.mil ; @greatlakes.cnet.navy.mil ; @microsoft.com ; etc.," the group wrote. 

The group announced the MilitarySingles.com hack on Twitter and Pastebin on Sunday, using the name "LulzSec Reborn" and ASCII art previously associated with LulzSec, the hacker group that apparently disbanded and merged with the Anonymous hacktivist collective last year.

Personal Details of Sun Newspaper Readers Hacked

 

Personal details of Sun newspaper readers - including Miss Scotland applicants - have been stolen by hackers in the latest online security breach.

Britain's biggest selling daily has sent out e-mails warning that information, including addresses, dates of birth and phone numbers, have been accessed. But it added: "No financial or password information was compromised."

News Group Newspapers, which also published the News of the World until it closed last month, said the breach took place on 18 to 19 July, at about the time hackers created a link from the Sun's website to a spoof page that said company owner Rupert Murdoch had been found dead in his garden.
Hacking group LulzSec claimed to be behind that breach but has been silent since alleged spokesman Jake Davis, 18, from Shetland, was arrested on 28 July. Davis faces a string of charges relating to the hacking of organizations such as Sony, the CIA and the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency, allegedly carried out by LulzSec and another group, Anonymous.

However, a Twitter user, Batteye, has claimed responsibility for taking the Sun readers' details, denied being part of either LulzSec or Anonymous and said the theft took place before 18 July.
Some of the information, including a Scottish students' poll and biographies of Miss Scotland applicants, then appeared on the website Pastebin.
One Miss Scotland entrant said: "I'm not happy at all. I'm kind of worried - because that's everything about me.

"(This data] should have been locked up. This was last year's, so they didn't need to keep my details."
The Batteye post said it was an attempt to expose those who could not be trusted with personal information.

The statement on Pastebin said: "We will begin today by presenting to you various files obtained from the Sun, a company within the News Corp group.
"We will continue, then, by exposing the world for what it is; a less than perfect place where we cannot trust those who we ask to protect our information."
 

On Twitter, Batteye posted a message saying: "OK - Anon and @lulzsec may have carried out their own attack, with defacements, emails, and whatnot. This is different."

The hacking of the Sun's website follows hacking by sister newspaper the News of the World of celebrities, politicians, war widows and victims of crime, including murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.
The so-called "hacktivist" code deployed by the likes of LulzSec, combines mischief-making or irony with the aggressive targeting of corporations or large organizations they believe are guilty of wrongdoing.

A hackers collective group named "AntiS3curityOPS" associated with hacktivist Anonymous claims to have taken down Chicago's police department website. As of about 11:10 a.m., the Chicago Police Department website, cityofchicago.org/police, was down along with Chicago's city website,  cityofchicago.org . The sites were back up just before 1 p.m. Chicago Police News Affairs said they weren't aware the sites weren't working as usual, but Supt. Garry McCarthy confirmed to reporters at noon the sites were indeed down. Chicago's Office of Emergency Management site, hosted on the city of Chicago site, also would not load and shortly after also went down. Officials say they continue to investigate. 

In the video statement posted online, the group AntiS3curityOPS claimed they are "actively engaged in actions against the Chicago Police Department." Earlier we have seen similar attack when Anon members targeted websites of several Police organizations like Salt Lake City Police Dept, Los Angeles Police Department, International Association of Chief of Police & so on.

Massive attack against banking and financial sector continues, this time HSBC became the latest victim of cyber attack. The attack which interrupt the service for 10 hours long were mainly originated from Iran and Russia. After 'Izz ad-Din al Qassam Cyber Fighters' now it was the time for Fawkes Security, an offshoot of hacktivist group Anonymous, quickly took credit for the attack, acknowledging the take down in posts yesterday afternoon on Twitter and Pastebin The group claimed to have knocked HSBC’s main site, along with its US, UK and Canadian counterparts offline and on Friday,claimed it logged 20,000 debit card details from the site while it was down. 

According to HSBC newsroom- "On 18 October 2012 HSBC servers came under a denial of service attack which affected a number of HSBC websites around the world." But HSBC denied any sort of data loss. Fawkes Security claimed to have details of more than 20K cards, but in their release HSBC said "This denial of service attack did not affect any customer data, but did prevent customers using HSBC online services, including internet banking." 

But now the whole situation is under control, websites belonging to British bank and financial services company HSBC are back online and working normally. According to an update posted on its website, HSBC restored all of its websites globally to full accessibility as of 3:00am UK time. 

New York Stock Exchange, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank and PNC was brought down by few hacker collective group as protest against the anti Islamic movie. After this attack the name of HSBC has also been enlisted with those poor victims (affected banks & finance sector) who suffered DDoS attack in last month.
