Anonplus the Social Networking site of Anonymous

Renowned hacker group Anonymous revealed yesterday that its Google+ profile has been removed and that their Gmail account has been blocked as well. Google claims that the profile and account go against "Community Standards" and has shut down most, if not all, profiles related to Anonymous.
As a result of being blocked, Anonymous says that they have organized against Google+ and will be developing their own social network, dubbed "AnonPlus."
Welcome to AnonPlus. This will be your future. This will be our future. Today, we welcome you to begin anew…to watch this glorious incipience happen – one upon which you will never turn your back on. Welcome to the Revolution – a new social network where there is no fear…of censorship…of blackout…nor of holding back. Life is what you make of it – and we are making it. As you step through into the coming weeks, months, and years with us…they will know that we've arrived. There will be no more oppression. There will be no more tyranny. We are the people and we are Anonymous. We have arrived.
The site currently has the Anonymous logo, the text that is above, a link to the dev forums, and a version number (0.1). From what we can tell, Anonymous is taking this pretty seriously.

What do you think? Was Google right in blocking Anonymous' profiles? What do you think about AnonPlus?

Lady Gaga’s website hacked & Fans' data Stolen By SwagSec (US Hacker)

Pop star Lady Gaga called in police after her website was hacked, resulting in the theft of thousands of names and email addresses.
Mirror.co.uk reports that Gaga's Britain website was hacked by US cyber attackers SwagSec, prompting her record label Universal to take urgent action.

"She's upset and hopes police get to the bottom of how this was allowed to happen," said a source. The cyber attack happened on June 27 but those responsible didn't make the information public until this week.
The hackers, who also issued a death threat against the singer, bizarrely branded her homophobic.
"The hackers took a content database dump from www.ladygaga.co.uk and a section of email, first name and last name records were accessed. There were no passwords or financial information taken," said a spokesperson from Universal label.

"We take this very seriously and have put in place additional measures to protect personally identifiable information. All those affected have been advised," the source added.

SwagSec have also targeted other Universal artists recently including Amy Winehouse and Justin Bieber.

VLC is Giving Malware Alert While Downloading

VLC Player by VideoLAN is no doubt one of the best and most popular media player available on Windows, Mac & Linux systems. Being open source software, the source code of VLC player is available to everyone. It’s however being reported that few fraud companies are abusing the source code and distributing the software infected with malware. These fraud companies tweak the source code and inject their own malware in the player and then make it available for download through various sources. User thinks that it’s the legit version of the software, however, receives the infected version which either does not work or spreads malware on their computer system.
What’s causing more trouble is that these fraud companies have enough money to have Google Adwards accounts so that they can buy advertisements on the Internet and expand their reach. Many such companies have even registered ‘official sounding’ domains which trick users to believe that they’re actually downloading from the official website. Ludovic Fauvet, the developer of VLC player says that his organization, being a non-profit, does not have enough money to sue these companies which are discrediting his work and also abusing the GPL license.
It’s being highly recommended that users looking to download VLC player should download it ONLY from the official website (link below) to be 100% sure that they’ve downloaded the authentic version of the software that just works fine and does not contain any malware.

Linvo Linux 2010.12.6.

A new distribution flew onto my radar today and it might be interesting to take a quick look. Linvo is a Bulgarian hailed distribution based on Slackware featuring the GNOME 2.32 desktop. Yesterday, developers released Linvo 2010.12.6.
According to the Official Website of Linvo:-

Why Linvo?

● Out-of-the-box experience
● Functionality
● Software support and installation
● Easy to configure
● Live CD
● Full multimedia support
● Compatibility
● Security and stability
● Easy to use, fast and beautiful desktop!
● Only platform-independent and function-rich applications
● Innovations that improve security, practicability and speed
● Absolutely free and open source

For new distributions especially it's an advantage to ship as a live CD/DVD and Linvo does just that. Most Slackware-based distros come as install images, so Linvo got bonus points before I even booted into the desktop. But it lost one because of being available just for 32-bit architectures.
Linvo ships with Linux 2.6.36, Xorg X Server 1.9.5, and GCC 4.5.2. A starter set of applications includes Biniax, GIMP, OpenOffice.org 3.2, Shotwell, Empathy, Gwibber, Skype, Chromium, Evolution, Brasero, Cheese, VLC, Rhythmbox, and lots of utilities such as a firewall configuration. Updates and additonal software can be installed using Gslapt with Linvo and Slackware repos. Even more applications can be installed from what some might call Linvo one-click installers on the Website. From the Website:
LinvoApp

This is the most distinctive feature of Linvo: the application management system. It allows you to:
● Multi-user, every system user can use different applications for himself
● Using applications from different kinds of media without needing installation
● Compared to other systems of that kind (for example, portableapps.org), LinvoApp does not require any special repackaging for the application to be converted into the required format
● Compared to systems like Slax's modules, LinvoApp works on an installed system rather than only on LiveCD and provides automatic dependency handling
● Synchronization with the website, an ability to restore your applications if any data loss occurs or if you install a different instance of Linvo; this is also usable if you need to synchronize a group of computers with the same selection of software (for example, in schools)
● An ability to personalize the Live CD
● Unbreakable upgrades between versions - applications and settings are (optionally) kept after reinstall, so it works as well as upgrade, only much more stable

The installer is quick and easy with just a few configuration questions. It worked well with no damage to my other partitions. The only complaint I have is that it didn't give me a choice about installing a bootloader. It installed GRUB seamlessly. I had a pretty bootloader that I liked, but Linvo's did pick up all my other installs and added them to the list. It's not very pretty though. But the Linvo desktop is quite pretty. It uses an attractive but unobtrusive window decoration and theme as well as a really pretty wallpaper. I haven't tested all the applications or spent lengthy time stress-testing Linvo, but what I've seen I like. I'm impressed. For a relative newcomer, it seems to be holding its own against any other 1-CD distribution.
