Google Plus is Now Giving Online Gaming Features

Google+ is became more attractive, they are now giving online gaming features like facebook. Hope now the competition between G+ and FB will be more harder and interesting.
Google's new social network, Google+, took a big step forward Thursday by adding games to its site. Google+ angry birds games Google+, which is less than two months old, said Thursday afternoon that it's beginning to roll out a games button at the top of users' streams. The highly popular Angry Birds</> is one of the first games to be added to the site, along with Zombie Lane and Edgeworld.
Vic Gundotra, senior vice president of engineering at Google, announced the gaming news in a blog post. Gundotra noted that users will be able to click on a Games button that will be placed above their streams. The button takes them to a games page, allowing games to be available when users want them and hidden when they don't.
"The experiences we have together are just as important to our relationships," wrote Gundotra. "We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life. That means giving you control over when you see games, how you play them and with whom you share your experiences."
And that's going to be an important feature for Google+, which has grown quickly since its launch, according to Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research.
"Games are a real complement to social networking," said Gottheil. "When people play games with other people, it is often more about being with other people than about the game itself. It actually fits the Circles model well. If you're a serious gamer, you want to talk about the game with other players, but that bores the rest of us silly."
And Gottheil also noted that adding games to the site, while not surprising, is a smart move. If people are able to access great games and engage with Circles of gamers, it easily could draw more users to the fledgling network. "I think Facebook has to be nervous about Google+ taking away some of its time-on-site more than taking away users," he added. In today's blog post, Gundotra noted that users will find their high scores, other games that friends have played recently and invitations to play with friends and family. And he also noted that Circles will only be updated with a user's scores and game play if they are interested in gaming, as well.
"Today we're starting to gradually roll out games in Google+," wrote Gundotra. "We look forward to making them fully available to everyone in Google+ soon. When you see a Games page in your account, please give games a try and send us feedback. Look for the "send feedback" button in the bottom right-hand corner of any page in Google+."

CDMA and 4G WiMAX Wireless Networks Compromised (#Defcon)

A post on the Full Disclosure mailing list claims both CDMA and 4G WiMAX wireless networks were compromised using a man-in-the middle attack at Defcon earlier this week.
Coderman, who posted the information, was a witness to the attack which gained access to Android smart phones and PCs on the local CDMA and 4G cellular network. The hackers started with simple exploits, like looking for devices with superuser access and sending remote notifications that opened a backdoor to the device. They then used more complex techniques until a device was compromised.
The goal of the attack was a mass infiltration of devices and the interception of data on commercial licensed bands. According to Coderman, this goal was achieved.
There's lot of speculation about how this hack was pulled off, but the group behind it has not released any details. Until someone comes forward with more information, we can't assess the seriousness of this attack, nor speculate whether it would work outside the conference.

Wisconsin University Hacked (75,000 social security numbers, Student Credentials Exposed)

The University of Wisconsin’s Milwaukee campus has been subject to a malware attack, which has exposed names and social security numbers of students — past and present — and staff alike.
Malware was discovered on a database server, which contained 75,000 social security numbers, and was shut down immediately after the malware was found.
While law enforcement and school investigators have yet to find evidence that data was stolen, the university sent out a letter to those who may have been affected by the breach.
In a statement, the vice-chancellor — the university boss — believes that the motive was theft of research project data; data and research programmes the university itself excels in. Staff found back-door malware, which can scan and view documents on a server, which is used by many of the university’s departments to store crucial research.
One of the concerns is that the malware could have had access to other servers, indicating the likelihood of a wider hack.
The malware is thought to have been installed on May 25th, and local and federal law enforcement were called in to investigate. On June 30th, however, it was discovered that the database containing social security numbers was compromised, also.
University officials, via a notice on their website, warn students to monitor their financial information and credit card statements to be on the safe side.
This news comes only days after it was discovered that users’ data, including social security numbers — predictable in nature — can be taken from sites like Facebook and other publicly government sites.
While data in this case may not have been downloaded — only exposed to hackers by malware — it once again calls questions on the data that universities have on its students.
It is, however, another reminder to users of Facebook and other social networking sites not to make birthday and date of birth data available on the web. While though it may be benign on in singular form, hacks like these, which include your full name, make you even more vulnerable to identity theft and bank account hacks more likely.
