Agents deny Smith Twitter hijack

Alan Smith's agents have been forced to clarify that a Twitter account purporting to belong to the Newcastle United midfielder is in fact fake.
The account in question, @AlanSmithy17, describes itself as "the official Alan Smith Twitter account" and on Wednesday afternoon tweets claiming to be from the striker's ex-fiancee, who had apparently hacked into the site, promised to reveal the truth about his move from Leeds to Manchester United in 2004 and whether he could return to Elland Road.
As well as publishing what was claimed to be a text from Smith, the 'ex-fiancee' also relayed alleged voicemail messages from the player as the account quickly gathered followers.
However, the agency that represents Smith soon clarified that the footballer had no affiliation with the account in question.
A tweet from @SportFirst read: "@alansmithy17 is not and has never been the Twitter account of footballer Alan Smith pls RT everyone".
