Anonymous, the Internet “hactivist” group, today, apparently in support of the Occupy Wall Street protest movement, hacked into several different police databases and leaked sensitive personal data, among them passwords, names, addresses, phone numbers and social security numbers from the Boston Police Patrolmens’ Association (BPPA) and Birmingham, Alabama Police Department. Additionally, Anonymous claims to have hacked the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and offers the above image as proof.
More than 600 MB of data from the International Association of Chief of Police, or IACP, (website still down) was released, according to a press release from Anonymous. It included internal documents, membership rosters, home addresses, passwords, social security numbers and more.
Along with the IACP data, Anonymous revealed 1000 names and passwords from the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association; 1000 names, ranks, social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers from the Alabama law enforcement systems; and the full contact database Matrix Group.
