Greece Under Cyber-Attack, Ministry & Telecom Service Provider Hacked By KHS

Greece Under Cyber-Attack, Ministry & Telecom Service Provider Hacked  By KHS

Now a days Greece is facing several cyber attacks, first it was hacker collective Anonymous who carried denial of service attack on Greece Ministry to bring down Ministry of Justice. Now another infamous hacker group named Kosova Hacker Security (KHS) engaged massive cyber attack on Greek fence. This attack also dubbed "Operation Greek" which causes serious damage for Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion, OTE- Greek Telecom Service and so on. The hack on OTE exposed more than 10K user credentials along with the Admin details. All the hacked databases can be found on the official forum of KHS named Cyber-Hell. According to KHS this attack is a counter attack or in other word tit for tat of Greek hackers who hacked few Albanian websites. KHS also vows to engage cyber-war while saying "if Greece don't stop their activity then they will see the worst day in the Internet..."
Earlier this group has carried several cyber attack on Ukraine, Israel and so on

Anonymous Shutdown Greek Ministry of Justice

Greece Under Cyber Attack, Anonymous Bring Down The Website Of Greek Ministry of Justice

After releasing the sensitive conference call now hacker collective group Anonymous has targeted the cyber fence of Greece. They have launched a cyber-attack on the Greek Ministry of Justice website, and warned of plans to target a further 300 ministry and media sites. The hack was apparently a protest against the Greek government's signing of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), which is designed to reduce internet piracy.
"You have introduced a new dictatorship upon your people's shoulders and allowed the bankers and the monarchs of the EU to enslave them both economically and politically," the group's message said. "You have joined the IMF (International Monetary Fund) against your people's acquiescence…democracy was given birth in your country but now you have killed it," the hackers added.
In a message left on the Greek Justice Ministry's website, the group threatened to take down 'all the media in Greece' unless the Greek government retracts its support for the global treaty, which Britain has also signed. The website was briefly listed as 'under construction' following the attack, but was amended to display the following message from the online collective:
'We know EVERYTHING, We have your PASSWORDS , We are watching YOU.
NEXT TARGET WILL BE ALL THE MEDIA IN GREECE. ( ertTV , etc )
WE HAVE MOST OF THE MEDIA WEBSITES ADMIN PASSWORDS.
We are Legion . This is JUST the BEGINING.
www.ministryofjustice.gr is just an example of what we are capable of!
You have 2 weeks to stop ACTA in Greece otherwhise we will do CYBERWARFARE by defacing 300 sites and all the media and ministries.'

Greek police said via Twitter that their cyber-crime division had already begun an investigation into the Ministry of Justice attack. Few days ago for ACTA protest another hacktivist group Teamgreyhat has hacked more than 7K websites. Also in Operation Megaupload  Anonymous has performed massive cyber attack on federal authorities, Brazil Govt, US Govt, Ireland Govt, CBS and many more.

Three Hackers From Anonymous Arrested In Greece

Three Hackers From Anonymous Arrested In Greece

Earlier this month Greece faced massive cyber attack from Anonymous and after investigation Greek police said they had arrested an 18-year-old suspected of hacking into the justice ministry's website. Also two other suspect aged 16 & 17 also being sought over the case.  In the February 2nd hackers from anonymous performed a cyber-attack on the Greek Ministry of Justice website, and warned of plans to target a further 300 ministry and media sites. The hack was apparently a protest against the Greek government's signing of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), which is designed to reduce Internet piracy. After that Greek police confirmed via twitter that they have started investigation and all the countermeasures have been taken. Indeed the output is in-front of us, 3 teenagers from Greece are behind the bar. The authority also said- The three youths have been linked to dozens of cyber attacks against Greek websites, using the alias Greek Hacking Scene and the nicknames "delirium", "nikpa" and "extasy". Authority also confirmed that these teens may have to face 1 year of imprisonment.
This the second time of this year when hackers from Anonymous get busted by police. In January a 22 year aged student arrested in south-western Poland for allegedly hacking the prime minister's website and local authority said that he was a part of Hactivist Anonymous.

Europol says internet main tool for organised crime

The Internet has become a major tool in European organised crime, which uses it for drugs and human trafficking and money laundering as well as cybercrime, Europol's top official said Wednesday.
There has been a marked increase over the last two years in criminal groups turning to the Web to commit crimes regarded as "more traditional" rather than purely computer-based crime, Europol director Rob Wainwright said.
"Using the Internet has become much more mainstream," Wainwright said at the release of the policing body's bi-annual organised crime threat assessment (OCTA).
"It has now become the principle facilitator for organised crime."
The OCTA report said: "In addition to the high-tech crimes of cybercrime -- payment card fraud, the distribution of child abuse material and audio visual piracy -- extensive use of the Internet now also underpins illicit drug synthesis, extraction and distribution."
The Web was also extensively used to recruit human trafficking victims, facilitate illegal immigration, supply counterfeit commodities and traffick in endangered species, the report said.
"It was also widely used as a secure communication and money laundering tool by criminals," it added.
Organised crime groups derived more than 1.5 billion euros from payment card fraud in the EU, the report estimated.
Europol's 37-page report looked at the development of organised crime over the last 24 months.
Organised criminal groups were crossing national, ethnic and business lines more than ever, it said.
The financial crisis and the fFinancial constraints it caused had made people "more likely to be recruited by criminal groups for example drug couriers or 'money mules'."
Criminal activity was located around five key hubs, the report added.
The Netherlands and Belgium was the main co-ordination centre for drug distribution in Europe.
The Baltic states of Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia -- and Kaliningrad in Russia -- were the main points for the transit of illicit goods from Russia and home to violent groups with international reach.
Spain and Portugal remained a transit point for cocaine and cannabis resin and for human trafficking.
Bulgaria, Romania and Greece had seen the greatest expansion as a result of increased trafficking via the Black Sea illicit commodities and an significant increase in illegal immigration.
Finally southern Italy remained a centre for counterfeit currency and commodities as well as a centre for human trafficking.
The report, which will go to justice and home affairs ministries around the EU, will help governments set crime-fighting priorities for the next two years, Wainwright said.

Personal Data of 35,000 Israeli People Leaked By Kosovo Hackers Security (KHS)

Personal Data of 35,000 Israeli People Leaked By Kosovo Hackers Security (KHS)

More hackers taking part in the Israeli rampage dubbed Operation Israel. As soon as the story of bombing and air strike in Gaza get spotted on the social networks, we have seen immediate protest coming from almost every part of the world. In case of digital bombing, then it was first Anonymous who called Operation Israel, then hackers from different part of the world joined and contributed in this combined protest. So far we have seen along with Anon, Pakistani hacker Hitcher from Muslim Liberation Army, Indian hacker Godzilla have played vital role in this rampage. According to sources more than 44 million hacking attempts have been made on Israeli government web sites since Wednesday. Attempts on defense related sites have been the highest, while 10 million attempts have been made on the site of Israel's president, 7 million on the Foreign Ministry and 3 million on the site of the prime minister.
But its yet not over, many more to come, as another very popular hacker collective group named Kosovo Hackers Security (KHS) have taken part in #OpIsrael. At the very first phase of their attack Kosovo Hacker's Security Group has attacked many servers belongs to Israeli govt, corporate & other major sectors. Thus the hacker group has gathered documents of more that 35,000 Israeli people including full name, email-id, postal address, phone number, passwords, fax & so on. According to KHS those leaked data belongs to Israeli citizen, along with Govt employs, police and several other sensitive personalities. All those leaked data are made public by the hacker group and can be found in 1337.al. KHS leader & Hotmail hacker, Th3 Dir3ctorY vows to engage more cyber attack against Israel while saying "Israel is attacking Gaza without any proper reason, so if they don't stop doing that we will attack in the energy sector & nuclear area of Israel and we will attack Israel with very bad viruses..." Before this leak, earlier in this year KHS also exposed more than 7 thousand credit card details of Israeli people. Also this hacker group was behind several attacks against Ukraine, Greece, Hotmail, IBM and so on.

Operation Intifada By Anonymous (DDOS attack on Israel Gov)

The latest target of Operation Anonymous, which following the dissolution of LulzSec is the last substantial non-amorphous hacker collective left out there, could lead to some substantial geopolitical fallout. That is because the target of the just announced upcoming DDOS attack is none other than the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, and while Israel has allegedly been happy to dispense hack attacks in the past, the onslaught on the Iranian nuclear power plant courtesy of the Stuxnet virus coming to mind, we doubt it will as happy to be seen on the receiving end of decentralized computer warfare. Either way, with the world focusing on Greece tomorrow, this development, and specifically what form of retaliation Israel adopts, will be yet another important factor to keep track of over the next 24 hours.

19 Million+ UK Households Being Used As Cyber Weapon (Botnets)

You are also a cyber criminal. Don't get panic, we are sorry to say this for that is truth. An exclusive report is saying that more than a million households of UK is either used or misused as cyber weapons meainly Botnets.
Dutch researchers investigating ways to curtail the hijacking of domestic computers for criminal use, found that more than one million UK households’ PCs are linked to criminal networks known as ‘botnets’, which are groups of Internet-connected computers that have been compromised by a third party and put to malicious use. With around 6% of the UK’s 19m Internet households thought to be part of a botnet, this helps criminals spread spam around the Web more effectively, whilst it can also be used to attack websites and even garner bank details from the unsuspecting public.
The data was gathered from a number of different sources, though most emanated from what is known as ‘spam traps’, which are fake email addresses set up for the sole purpose of receiving junk mail. It’s thought that more than 90% of spam is sent through botnets, and it’s the Internet addresses on these botnets which are a good indicator of where the so-called ‘drone’ machines are located. The researchers then used the IP addresses of the machines that were sending the spam, and traced each one to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). And feeding into this was data about the Conficker botnet, which is thought to be one of the biggest examples of such a network, and incident reports from a computer security company called DShield. The UK figure is placed at number 19 in the top 20 nations with the biggest botnet problem, but it’s roughly in-line with the global average which sits at around 5-10% of domestic computers that are thought to be linked to botnets. Greece and Israel were way out on top, though, with around a fifth of all broadband subscribers thought to be unwittingly recruited into botnets.
It goes without saying that the biggest ISPs have the biggest botnet problem. It has been figured out that the level of spam on BT’s network peaked at the end of July 2010, at which point more than 30m junk email messages were being sent each week.

Here is a Statistic:-

The good news, however, is that these figures have fallen sharply since then with a number of anti-cyber crime groups helping to bring down some of the biggest botnets. One takedown earlier this year saw spam fall massively overnight, when just an entire network, called Rustock, stopped sending junk.

Anonymous Declared Operation Italy (#OpItaly)

Hactivist Anonymous vows that they will hit the Govt. of Italy (#OpItaly). As per press release of Anon the target is WWW.ITALIA.GOV.IT ON AT 14:00 GMT (15:00 - ROME). "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have Chosen the side of the oppressor" Anonymous added.

Anonymous Press Release:-

"For the attention of the citizens of the world:
After almost a year since the attack on the government, we're back.
Demos ocracy was called away in Greece.
We lived in the conviction to live in a democracy and as citizens it is our right and duty to cooperate to make it better. Why FREEDOM 'is participation.
The new government was presented with the appearance of those frigid, having never practiced the policy should be free from the temptations that we know Italian well. Waving words long coveted as equity, social justice and discipline. Well he has not yet seen such a shadow, except the attitude with which you present to the media. Know that you are under observation by many, and that it will take four good intentions.
Banks and speculators have caused the financial crisis and now men of these criminal associations of financial press have been placed at the head of governments to solve the problem they themselves created.
We want to give a signal for all to the good intentions and promises of social justice so that they are maintained and restored parliamentary democracy, now replaced by a gerontocracy of bankers.
Increasingly invasive media have made us slaves of power, plagiarizing our families, making us more and more spectators and less involved in decision making in the public interest. Anonymous and free and all citizens will be aware not to look.

We are Anonymous.
We are legion.
We do not condone.
We will not forget.
Wait!..."

The EU is Launching "European Cybercrime Centre" To Fight Against Cyber Threats

The European Commission is Launching "European Cybercrime Centre" To Fight Against Cyber Threats
The rise of cyber-crime and cyber-crminals are on the high node. According to a statistic more than 1m people are victims of cybercrime across the globe each day. It says the cost of cybercrime could reach US$388bn worldwide. To fight against rising cyber-crime The European Commission is proposing to set up a European Cybercrime Centre in the Hague to focus on online fraud, e-crime and identity theft. As for the European Cybercrime Centre, the commission is proposing to set it up within the European Police Office, Europol in The Hague in The Netherlands. According to the official release of European Commission - The EU plans to tackle this with a new European Cybercrime Centre , which would warn EU countries of major threats and alert them to weaknesses in their online defences. It would also identify criminal networks and prominent offenders, and provide support during investigations. The centre will use information from the public domain, industry, the police and academia to assist cybercrime investigators, prosecutors and judges.
Anyone can be a victim of cybercrime – it includes:
  •   Online identity theft
  •   Computer fraud
  •   Credit card scams
  •   Sexual exploitation of children
  •   Hijacking of web accounts
  •   Attacks on public or private IT systems
And this type of crime is increasing. Around 600,000 Facebook accounts need blocking every day after hacking attempts. In Belgium alone, internet fraud rose from just over 4,000 cases in 2008 to over 7,000 in 2010. And in the UK, bank account takeovers shot up by 207% between 2008 and 2009. A crackdown on cybercrime will help to increase confidence in e-banking and online booking, and will save millions of euros – a 2011 study put the global cost of cybercrime at €85-291bn. Unfortunately, very few of the perpetrators are currently caught. The pan-EU nature of the centre would ensure that threats are passed on quickly to other EU countries. If someone in Lithuania reports that their bank account has been accessed illegally, it could be linked quickly to similar incidents anywhere from Greece to Ireland, allowing the centre to immediately alert all EU countries to the threat.
Cybercrime Statistics (European Commission analysis):-
  • By 2011, nearly 73pc of European households had internet access at home.
  • In 2010, more than 36pc of EU citizens were banking online.
  • 80pc of young Europeans connect through online social networks.
  • Circa US$8trn exchanges hands globally each year in e-commerce.
  • Credit card details can be sold between organised crime groups for as little as €1 per card, a counterfeited physical credit card for around €140 and bank credentials for as little as €60.
  • Up to 600,000 Facebook accounts are blocked every day, after hacking attempts.
The commission said the centre will fuse information from open sources, private industry, police and academia, as well as serving as a platform for European cybercrime investigators, where they can have a collective voice in discussions with the IT industry, private-sector companies, academia, users' associations and civil society organisations.

The International Monetary Fund get Hacked.

The International Monetary Fund, which manages the money of many a nation around the world, was recently the victim of what has been described as a "large and sophisticated" attack on its systems. It isn't yet clear how bad the damage is.
The breach certainly comes at a bad time, as the fund was only just rocked by the sexual assault charges against its former director Dominique Strauss-Kahn last month. However, the attack might have taken place even before said charges, though an official statement has yet to be made. The hackers responsible could, then, have had access to very serious information for some time:-
Because the fund has been at the center of economic bailout programs for Portugal, Greece and Ireland - and possesses sensitive data on other countries that may be on the brink of crisis - its database contains potentially market-moving information. It also includes communications with national leaders as they negotiate, often behind the scenes, on the terms of international bailouts. Those agreements are, in the words of one fund official, "political dynamite in many countries." It was unclear what information the attackers were able to access.
The attack was apparently so serious that the World Bank cut the connection that allows the two organizations to share data.
The IMF is only the most recent example of a large corporate entity being made vulnerable by cyber mischief. Both Sony and Lockheed Martin have fallen victim to wayward hackers in recent months. The fund has denied, however, any connection to the RSA SecurID break-in that compromised Lockheed back in March.

Why does Sony getting hacked for multiple times (full report)

Since the April Play Station Network breach that exposed over 100 million user accounts, Sony has been hacked more than 10 times. Sony Pictures,Sony Europe, Sony BMG Greece, Sony Thailand,Sony Music Japan, Sony Ericcson Canada, and others, have all been the target of attacks. Sony has had to contend with intense scrutiny from media, disgruntled users and lawmakers, with everyone asking the company how it could let such a breach happen. Sony has apologized repeatedly and said that the original attack was a highly professional, criminal cyber attack aimed at stealing credit card numbers. Other experts have said that Sony simply didn't have its security act together and that the attack was likely far simpler. Now, critics are wondering what exactly the motivation might be behind the continued hacks. While the initial PlayStation Network breach was the largest of the hacks to date, Sony's cyber attack problem has continued due to both inconsistent security across Sony's systems and the rise of new groups of hackers interested less in punishing Sony than in showing off their ability to breach the company's defenses, experts say.

Some analysts say Sony's security woes started when the company pressed charges against 20 year-old hacker, George Hotz, who reverse-engineered Sony’s PlayStation 3 so that it could run unapproved third-party applications. Sony responded by suing Hotz, a move that reportedly infuriated many in the hacker community. Many experts say the attack on the PlayStation Network in April could have been an act of vilgilante justice resulting directly or indirectly from Sony's lawsuit against Hotz.

"Sony's perceived abuse of the legal system in targeting reverse-engineer George Hotz infuriated hacker groups," said Randy Abrams, director of technical education at ESET, an IT security firm. Abrams also noted that even before the Hotz incident, Sony had drummed up "significant antipathy" as the result of a 2005 scandal involving Sony CDs that automatically installed a rootkit that made users' computers vulnerable to attack.
The PlayStation Network attack appears to have set off an avalanche of follow-ups.

"Other hackers and hacking groups realized they could jump on the bandwagon and break into other Sony properties and get in the news," said Richard Wang, manager of Sophos Labs, a security vendor. "Really anything that has the Sony brand on it has become a target for someone trying to make a name for themselves or trying to prove they can break into the website."

Fred Cate, director of the Center for Applied Security Research at the University of Indiana, said the first PlayStation Network breach may have tempted hackers by revealing Sony as open to attack. "There's sort of a pile-on effect," Cate said. "Once you hear that there's a vulnerable network out there, other folks start trying. Sony's now a new target of interest."
Other hackers seem to have joined up for reasons other than political or monetary gain. Sites like has sonybeen hacked this week.com demonstrate a curious mixture of genuine curiosity and weary cultural saturation.

"Prior to the PSN hack, the loosely organized Anonymous group had waged war against Sony, reflecting the opinion of a significant share of netizens who got infuriated by Sony's corporate attitude," said Guillaume Lovet, a senior manager of the threat response team at Fortinet. "But now, from being a target for opinion reasons only, it also became a target 'just for the lulz,' for [hacker group] lulzsecurity and others."
"The outcome," Lovet said, "is more attackers, thus more successful hacks."

Some critics have questioned whether Sony's security efforts both before and after the initial breaches have been adequate. Sony has since promised to boost its security systems and review existing procedures. Still, according to experts, many of the attacks used to breach Sony's sites are fairly basic hacks that the company could easily have protected against.

"They seemingly have an almost anarchistic approach to global network security, with no visible coordination of security practices across Internet properties," said Abrams. "Some properties, such as Sony Pictures, seem to have been ignoring basic security best practices."

Part of the problem is Sony’s huge international web presence. Experts say its highly unlikely that the company's multiple divisions, from movies to gaming, are following any coordinated set of security protocols.

"Sony has disclosed many breaches, including different servers in Indonesia and Thailand. I highly doubt that the same developers who developed these websites are the same developers who worked on the Playstation Network, Sony Pictures, etc.,” said Derek Manky, a senior security strategist at Fortinet. "Quite simply, there is a tradeoff: Security dwindles as you add convenience and complexity."

While the novelty of hacking Sony may continue to diminish as other cybersecurity stories hit the news, it's clear Sony must get its act together or risk more attacks, a loss of customer faith and money and possible government intervention.

"Sony needs time to get their security house in order," Jeremiah Grossman, the CTO of WhiteHat Security wrote in an email. "As an organization, Sony could see this as an opportunity. A year or more from now, they could be an example of how security SHOULD be done across the entire industry."
