Researchers At FireEye Found -Chinese Hackers Snitching  Europeans Before G20 Summit 

Story of cyber espionage by Chinese hackers used to remain one of most highest pick of breakneck. Yet again another breathtaking issue of  eavesdropping by Chinese hackers get spot light, when  California-based renounced computer security firm FireEye Inc have figured out that a group of Chinese hackers eavesdropped on the computers of five European foreign ministries before last September's G20 Summit, which was dominated by the Syrian crisis. From the detailed analysis we came to know that the hackers have infiltrated the ministries' computer networks by sending emails to staff containing tainted files with titles such as "US_military_options_in_Syria," which sells virus fighting technology to companies. Whenever the targeted recipients opened those documents, they loaded malicious code on to their personal computers. Researchers of FireEye said that they were able to monitor the "inner workings" of the main computer server used by the hackers to conduct their reconnaissance and move across compromised systems for about a week in the late August. But suddenly they lost access to the hackers after they moved to another server shortly before the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. 

Though the company has declined in open press to identify the nations whose ministries were hacked, although it said they were all members of the European Union. But FireEye informed the FBI about the whole issue in details. FireEye also confirmed that the hackers where from China, but they did not find evidence which may link those hackers to the Chinese government. Not surprisingly and obviously like earlier the Chinese government has distanced itself from any claim that it might have hacked foreign governments for data. FireEye also successfully monitor several dozen hacking groups operating in China, most of which they suspect of having ties to the government. The firms also suspect the hacking groups of stealing intellectual property for commercial gain. The researchers had been following the hackers behind the Syria-related attack for several years, but this is the first time the group's activities have been publicly documented. The company calls the group "Ke3chang," after the name of one of the files it uses in one of its pieces of malicious software. "The theme of the attacks was U.S. military intervention in Syria," said FireEye researcher Nart Villeneuv. 

On reaction Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said- "U.S. internet companies are keen on hyping up the so-called hacker threat from China, but they never obtain irrefutable proof, and what so-called evidence they do get is widely doubted by experts. This is neither professional nor responsible," 

While talking in this story of Chinese eavesdropping, I also want to dig some points from decent parts where we all became very habituated of seeing Europe & U.S. countries blaming China for engaging cyber attacks; and China also do the same for accusing U.S. like vice versa. I am reviving your memories of last few years where If you look at the story of major cyber attacks of this year we will find that the name of China has been involved several times for engaging cyber attacks against several high profile websites and organization of U.S. including New York Times, Twitter, NBC and so on. And if you refresh our memory then then we will find the scenario of big cyber attack and espionage by Chinese hackers have been spotted several times. In 2012 Chinese hackers had  breached Telvent's corporate network & gained control of US Power Grid. Also in the middle of last year, we have seen that Chinese hackers have broken into Indian Navy's Computer System & stolen sensitive data. Few months before this hack, Tokyo based computer security firm Trend Micro confirmed that Chinese hackers were responsible for biggest cyber-espionage in India, Japan & Tibet. Also the director of National Security Agency (NSA) General Keith Alexander confirmed that hackers from China was responsible for the serious attack on one of the leading IT security & cyber security company RSA. Also in 2011 China was responsible behind the attack on US Chamber of Commerce, Satellite System of U.S, Nortel Network & so on.  But few days ago National Computer Network Emergency Response Coordination Center of China (CNCERT/CC), China's primary computer security monitoring network claimed that China fallen victim of one of biggest cyber attacks originated from US, Japan & South Korea. We must have to say that this statement is truly irrelevant. Cyber crime investigator have found that China was directly responsible for the hack into Japan's Biggest Defense Contractor Mitsubishi, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) & Parliament of Japan. In case of South Korea  more than 13 Million of MapleStory players data has been stolen, there also hackers from China was responsible.  

Before I conclude, I request you to closely look at the above mentioned stories, you will find China majorly responsible for eavesdropping & security breach. On the same side China also been effected by the same way. So in conclusion, we cant put a full stop in this chain of cyber attacks, hacking & eavesdropping, as it comes from both end. Hacker going by the alias name of Dr41DeY, from a hackers community named Nigerian Cyber Army strikes again. After his much discussed hack of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), this time also he targeted what it called yet another high profile website of one of the leading 24-hour satellite channel of Assam, India named 'DY365 TV.' While talking with VOGH representative the hacker confirmed that, manipulating some untold vulnerability he managed to gain administrative access into the official website DY365 TV. But this time without tampering data, the hacker just left a message on the home page saying "Hacked By Dr41DeY @Nigerian Cyber Army." Like earlier this time also Dr41DeY created an image archive as a proof of this hack. This attack taken place on the 3rd of December, and after couple of hours of hack, DY365 authorities have responded to the incident and restored their site, and also sources confirmed that the security hole has also been patched. Though this popular Assamese broadcasting channel refuses to give any statement regarding this issue. 

Brief About DY365:- It is a 24-hour satellite channel of Assam, India. DY365 broadcasts news in Assamese, Hindi, Bengali and English language. It was launched on October 30, 2008. DY365 is a unit of Brahmaputra Tele Productions Pvt. Ltd. Manoj Kumar Goswami is the editor-in-chief of the channel. The channel gained popularity is a very short span of time, and now it's recognized as one of the leading channel of North East India.

An ethical hacker from India named Chirag Singh have figured out serious loopholes in the official website of Jadavpur University -one of the most renowned and prestigious university of India. Chirag find blind Sql injection vulnerability which can be exploited by malicious purpose in order to harm the website and gain access. From the vulnerability report submitted by the hacker, it has been found that the web-server of Jadavpur University is using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (Tikanga) where the web application technologies are Apache 2.2.3 and PHP 5.1.6; along with the back-end database is PostgreSQL. The hackers also managed to dump 11 database with more than 215 tables as shown in the picture below 

This issue has already been reported to the concern person and the webmaster of Jadavpur University, and due to security and privacy we are not exposing and mention the vulnerable link and dumped database.

White House Calls China to Stop Hacking & Cyber Espionage Against U.S.

The story of cyber espionage by Chinese hackers used to remain on the spot light due to its consistency, but now the situation get nasty and takes a new way as the national security adviser of U.S. President Obama directly pointed his finger to China. Many of our readers might take this issue lightly as earlier China has been blamed for engaging cyber attacks against different countries for many times. But this time there is a twist as the U.S. government vows to take the issue in a very serious manner. In his speech the national security advisory Tom Donilon said that "The international community cannot afford to tolerate such activity from any country," Like earlier China has denied any type of involvement and condemned the report for lack of hard evidence. But this time such reaction will not at all be entertained as the president said in the State of the Union, "we will take action to protect our economy against cyberthreats." The above two statements can be taken in both friendly warning or also in a serious threat. The White House already warned China to end the campaign of cyber espionage against U.S. companies, saying in its toughest language yet on the issue that the hacking activity threatens to derail efforts to build stronger ties between the two countries. 

Donilon did not directly accuse the Chinese government of launching the attacks on U.S. computer systems, only noting that the attacks are coming from inside the country. "Increasingly, U.S. businesses are speaking out about their serious concerns about sophisticated, targeted theft of confidential business information and proprietary technologies through cyber intrusions emanating from China on an unprecedented scale," he said. Another important message came from the Obama administration saying United States “will not accept North Korea as a nuclear state” and called on Chinese leaders to get serious about cracking down on cyber-related crimes.

We all are very much familiar of hearing the story of cyber espionage and cyber attacks originated from China by Chinese hackers. Where many countries across the globe have fallen victim like U.S. India, Japan, South Korea, many European countries and many more. But today a complete reverse story came under light where the Chinese government are claiming that several top secrete government sites like defense, army, military were targeted and hit by hackers from United States. According to some classified sources it came that Chinese government websites are routinely hacked from IP addresses originating within the United States. In a news conference, spokesman of Defense Ministry of China; Mr. Geng Yansheng said that - more than 144,000 hacking attempts per month are targeted at the China Military Online and Defense Ministry websites. According to Chinese defense ministry a close to two-thirds of those attacks (62.9 percent) originated in the United States. Geng said he had noted reports that the United States planned to expand its cyber-warfare capability but that they were unhelpful to increasing international cooperation towards fighting hacking.

"We hope that the U.S. side can explain and clarify this." The U.S. security company, Mandiant, identified the People's Liberation Army's Shanghai-based Unit 61398 as the most likely driving force behind the hacking. Mandiant said it believed the unit had carried out "sustained" attacks on a wide range of industries. Yansheng did not mention a direct link between the cyber attacks and the U.S. government only that the attacks originated in the United States. He did note, however, that China is concerned with reports that the United States is planning to expand its cyber warfare capabilities.

He was mum but not passive, and it shows when well known Pakistani hacker going by the name of "Hitcher" come back again. The name of Hitcher is common to us for defacing high profile websites, his last few high profile hack was HP Training Center, Bank of Punjab, Kingfisher Airlines, Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia & 100+ Chinese Govt Websites, again ensue the same path. This time the target was the official website of Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training India (BRBRAITT) also known as India Premier National Level Telecommunication Training Center. As per sources the hacker managed to breach the server security and get administrative access into the BBBRAITT system. He not only hacked and defaced the index page, but also stolen sensitive data like employ details, course curriculum,  student details, several ongoing project information, and few more confidential tidings. Immediately after the hack, webmaster of BBBRAITT noticed the issue and patched those security holes and back doors from which the hacker get in. Also he restored the site to its normal format. But still the deface mirror can be found on an archiving site called Th3Mirror.com, though the reason of this hack is still a mystery.

So far NASA have been targeted several times, where hackers have figured out vulnerability and penetrated the digital security. Yet again same thing happened to NASA, when an ethical hacker from India going by the name of "Zero Cool" find out serious loopholes in one of the sub-domain of NASA, which could lead sensitive information disclosure. In the cyber space no one is secured, whether its a defense organization, govt sector, federal authorities, giant IT company or even a hosting provider. The famous line "Security is an Illusion" is quite true, and it happens to one of the giant of web hosting provider "HostGator." It was the Indian domain of HostGator which have fallen victim in front of hackers. Few Indian hackers calling them selves "Cyber Rog" breached the tight security system of HostGator, not only that, but also the hackers uploaded his deface page in order to give some message to this giant hosting provider. "Let look at your face, you get pawned man" -said  those hackers from Cyber Rog. They also vows to hit back while saying "Secure your website, next time we will be back." At the end the hacker group made a satire while camouflaging them selves while saying "We are Anonymous" followed by a funny symbol. Immediately after this massacre get spotted the HostGator team restored the site and deleted the hackers page as shown in the picture below.

But you can still view the deface page from a mirror site called "Legend-H" Such matter is deferentially shameful for company like HostGator  who had passed the 200,000 mark in registered domains in 2008 and now that number has touched 80,00,000.

Freedom of social media in India has been revoked, as the Indian govt has implemented several policy by which they made the social network completely censored. Though this step has been criticized randomly but the decisions has remain unchanged. And the result is in front of us; when a man from Agra get busted. The incident occurs immediately after he made a posts on social networking site Facebook targeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, union Communications Minister Kapil Sibal and Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. According to police the post which the man from Agra made violated the policy of Indian govt and that's why it is taken as "communal and inflammatory." the man named Sanjay Chowdhary, a resident of the Dayalbagh suburb of Agra, was arrested late Monday and his laptop, sim card and data card impounded.

Police in Agra, about 360 km from here, said the arrest, which some see as an attempt to muzzle freedom of speech and expression on social networking sites, that the arrest was made on "specific information" about certain "communal and inflammatory" posts by Chowdhary. However, officials here admitted that the "case became hypersensitive after some remarks were made on the SP chief".

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Agra, Subhash Chandra Dubey said police had acted "purely on law and order basis" in the matter.

"We are not involved in the political angle of the whole issue, our concern were the inflammatory comments and posts on the Facebook wall of this man and we acted to prevent any communal flare up," Dubey told the media. Some officials, however, said the case was "fast tracked" once cartoons lampooning the three leaders were posted on his Facebook wall.

Soon after his arrest, the inflammatory posts were deleted from his Facebook profile and later his account was deactivated. Chowdhury, a civil engineer and chairman of a public school, was booked under sections 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 66 A of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

"We have arrested him and he is being sent to jail under the due process of law," a police official said.

Yet again the story of cyber espionage by Chinese hackers spotted in the wild, when the famous and one of the most popular American news daily reported that their system has been compromised by a round of sophisticated cyber attack generated from China. After the hack of White House unclassified network, it is the second time in last six month; when Chinese hackers have targeted the American cyber space. The New York Times has reported that for the last four months Chinese hackers have been infiltrating its networks, broken into the email accounts of senior staff, stolen the corporate passwords for every Times employee and used those to gain access to the personal computers of  more than 50 employees. 

According to a blog post of NYT - The timing of the attacks coincided with the reporting for a Times investigation, published online on Oct. 25, that found that the relatives of Wen Jiabao, China’s prime minister, had accumulated a fortune worth several billion dollars through business dealings. Security experts hired by The Times to detect and block the computer attacks gathered digital evidence that Chinese hackers, using methods that some consultants have associated with the Chinese military in the past, breached The Times’s network. They broke into the e-mail accounts of its Shanghai bureau chief, David Barboza, who wrote the reports on Mr. Wen’s relatives, and Jim Yardley, The Times’s South Asia bureau chief in India, who previously worked as bureau chief in Beijing. 

“Computer security experts found no evidence that sensitive e-mails or files from the reporting of our articles about the Wen family were accessed, downloaded or copied,” said Jill Abramson, executive editor of The Times. The hackers tried to cloak the source of the attacks on The Times by first penetrating computers at United States universities and routing the attacks through them, said computer security experts at Mandiant, the company hired by The Times. This matches the subterfuge used in many other attacks that Mandiant has tracked to China.

All those above stories it has been clearly identified that China was the point of those said attacks, but it doesn't necessarily prove that it the operation is backed by the Chinese government or intelligence services. 'Indian OS' DRDO Introducing It's Own Operating System to Harden Cyber Security 

On the 3rd Worldwide Cyber security Summit, Telecom and IT Minister of India, Kapil Sibal said the Indian Government will invest $200 million in coming 4 years. This high tech plan of Indian govt in now getting executed, as Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along-with other premier institutes is developing India's own operating system (OS), which is likely to be ready in next three years. One of the key purpose of developing this operating system named "Indian OS" to enhance cyber security and strengthen the cyber and digital fence of India. In September the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh  said the government is working on a robust cyber security structure, and this project of introducing the own and secure OS can be calculated as one of the very major part of that very robust cyber security system. 

Speaking to newsmen on sidelines of NAVCOM-2012', two-day international conference on Navigation and Communication that began here, Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister, said, "We have already started a major programme and are one-and-half-years into that programme. It (Indian OS) is a major effort requiring large number of software engineers working together." In his speech the Director-General of DRDO said "One of the major elements of cyber security is having our own operating system because today we are dependent on all OS systems which are imported whether it is based on Windows, Linux which is likely to be having malicious worms/things and hence it is essential that we have our own OS" 

He also said that 150 engineers were working across the country on creating Indian OS, and added it will take at least three more years for getting the Indian OS ready.

So, till that time being, we have to keep patience and wait. We the Team VOGH congratulates DRDO for making such a fruitful Operating System (Indian OS). We strongly believe that day by day the cyber fence of India will be safer and secure. Along with this, the Indian OS will definitely strengthen the nation's cyber security.

Google Pakistan Hacked & Defaced By Turkish Hacker

Google Pakistan Along With Microsoft  HP, HSBC, Apple, PayPal, Blogspot Hacked & Defaced By Turkish Hacker

Today was most probably the worst day in the history of Pakistan cyber space. Ten big domains of Pakistan has been stroked very badly. Many of you are guessing that it was Indian hackers who cost this damage. But in reality the attack was not generated from India, Bangladesh or such any other native countries,  but it was a Turkish hacker who have reportedly taken down the home and search page of Google Pakistan while leaving an image of two penguins walking across a bridge for million of users. I think now you got that, yes it was Google Pakistan which has been hacked and defaced by a Turkey hacker code named "KriptekS". In the deface page the hacker left several messages in Turkish language, the translation of the text, written on the website, is: "eboz. My homies in a friend always there for me. Have not shot by me with every breath." Also the hacker left a message saying "Pakistan Downed" which is indicating that the home page of Google Pakistan is indeed take down. According to deface mirror on Zone-H, the attack took place around 02:17 in the afternoon, but still, when I am writing this article, the home page of Google Pakistan is still offline. 

May be you are thinking that the story is over, but no; as I told earlier it was the worst day for Pakistani cyber fence, trust me indeed it was. As along with Google, KriptekS, the Turkish hacker also targeted Pakistani domain of Blogger, HSBC, Coca-Cola, Fanta, Paypal, Microsoft, HP & Apple. Also it has been reported that Pakistani domain of Sony, Yahoo & Windows has also been allegedly hacked. And all those hacked domains are still offline.

While talking about this dangerous cyber attack, we would like to remind you that few days ago couple of Pakistani hackers defaced several big Israeli domains including MSN, Bing, Live, Skype, Microsoft Store, BBC, CNN, Coca-Colla, XBOX, Windows, Intel, Philips, Israeli Parliament, Citi Bank and so on. Whether it is not clear that this attack on Pakistan has nay relation with that attack on Israel. But what we can say is that "KriptekS" exactly followed the same path, which Pak hackers shown the world few days ago.

India & Britain Enhancing Cooperation in Cyber Security to Reduce Cybercrime

Just a week ago on the sidelines of 3rd Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit, Telecom and IT Minister of India, Kapil Sibal said the Indian Government will invest $200 million in coming 4 years, in order to strengthen their cyber security infrastructure. Now another move has been taken by Indian Govt where India and the United Kingdom have decided to enhance cooperation for reduction of the risk of threats from cyberspace to international security and strengthen bilateral cooperation to tackle cyber crime. At a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, British Foreign Secretary William Hague supported India’s bid for membership in four export control regimes. Britain, Mr. Hague said, also looked “forward to the time when India will have a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.” The two nations also finalized strategies on collaborating on building skills and capacities to tackle threats from cyberspace and to use ICT (information and communication technologies) for the objective of economic and social development. They also held discussions on using existing cooperation between universities and business communities to develop synergy in research and development on cyber issues.

Besides the cyber issues, both sides discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Henceforth, India and the UK would conduct their Cyber Dialogue on a bi-annual basis to achieve these objectives, said an official release issued by Indian External Affairs Ministry. 

While talking about India-Bratain cooperation in Cyber Security, we would also like to remind you that in 2011, a Cyber Shield deal Between India & US was made. Also in this year India and Israel have agreed to launch a long-term joint program worth USD 10 million annually to facilitate research on Cyber-Security.
