Google Threatens To Sue YouTube-to-MP3-Ripping Sites

Google Threatens To Sue YouTube-to-MP3-Ripping Sites

Bad news for those people who are habituated to rip YouTube music videos to MP3s through youtube-mp3.org and similar sites. According to an exclusive report of TorrentFreak - Google are threatening action against one of the web’s largest YouTube conversion sites. The site, which according to Google’s own stats is pulling in 1.3 million visitors every day, extracts MP3 audio from YouTube videos and makes it available for users to download. Google’s lawyers say this must stop, and have given the site seven days to comply.
Over the years, YouTube has struck deals with record labels such as Warner Music Group and Universal to host music videos on the site. Although the music is always free, most videos have links to buy the songs on iTunes, Google Play and AmazonMP3. The video is supposed to be promotional, but conversion sites provide a way to take the music with you at no charge -- a practice that surely riles copyright holders.
What YouTube-MP3 does is straightforward. At one end a user feeds the site with a YouTube URL and after a couple of minutes the site spits out a standalone MP3 file, perfect for ripping the audio from pop videos.
Needless to say these sites are hugely popular, particularly with the younger generation. But aside from that emotional appeal, websites that provide Youtube-to-MP3 conversion don't have a strong argument to stand on. YouTube's API terms of service forbid users from extracting individual elements from a video -- such as the audio component -- and from making any part of the video available for download. Conversion sites clearly violate those terms or service.
In an open letter, “Philip” from Youtube-mp3.org argues that Google, which owns YouTube, is being hypocritical, noting that the company scanned out-of-print books into digital form without permission, and shows news snippets from online publications on Google News at no cost, even as some publishers demand payment. Likewise, Philip argues that his site is bending the rules to serve the needs of users. It's not clear why YouTube is taking action now, since these sites have been around for a while. But what we can guess is that copyright holders are pushing YouTube to crack down as the site tries to secure more professional content. Even if YouTube swats down some sites, others will surely crop up, and standalone conversion tools will remain available. But for those rights holders, at least it looks like Google's doing something.

Microsoft's Official YouTube Channel Has Been Hacked

Hackers have taken control of Microsoft's official YouTube channel, removed the company's videos and replaced them with ones of their own. At the time of writing, the hackers are still uploading new videos to the channel. The ones we have seen so far are typically three or four seconds in length, and typically call on other Internet users to post video responses, create new background images for the channel or provide sponsorship. Another brief video, entitled "Bingo", shows an animated character from what appears to be the "LA Noire" videogame by Rockstar Games, shooting another character in the head.
A message posted on the channel cryptically reads:
"I DID NOTHING WRONG I SIMPLY SIGNED INTO MY ACCOUNT THAT I MADE IN 2006 :/"

Microsoft says in a statement, “We are aware that someone has altered the YouTube channel devoted to Microsoft videos.  We are working with YouTube to rectify the situation.”
A new statement from Microsoft: “We have regained control of the Microsoft channel on YouTube, and we are working to restore all of the original content.  We will continue to work with YouTube to ensure safeguards are in place for the future.”

Google Has 1 Billion Unique Monthly Visitors

Google revealed more than a year ago that it has more than 1 billion searches a day and averages 1 billion searchers a week. Now it can add 1 billion unique visitors per month to that storied stat club. comScore revealed that Google's Websites, including its search engine, YouTube video-sharing site and Gmail, lured more than a billion unique visitors in May. That's up 8.4 percent from a year ago. It is the first time an Internet company has hit that benchmark, according to the researcher. See the report here or this snapshot on Search Engine Land. That would be nice if it weren't for the fact that Google's rivals are growing their online traffic, too. Microsoft, whose Bing search engine came on strong last year, followed with 905 million unique visitors in May, good for growth of 15 percent. Facebook, meanwhile, saw its visitor count balloon to 714 million visitors, perhaps an accurate reflection of its current user base. Facebook's year-to-year growth was a remarkable 30 percent. More impressive (and scary, for Google) is Facebook's user engagement stat: comScore said the social network's users logged 250 billion minutes worldwide in May, up 66 percent from May 2010.
In a June 15 blog post, comScore said Facebook's average U.S. visitor engagement has grown from 4.6 hours to 6.3 hours per month over the past year. Nielsen confirmed the six-hour stat in its own research.
Microsoft is next at 204 billion minutes, down 13.6 percent, while Google is third with 200 billion minutes, good for growth of 13 percent. Facebook's ability to keep users logged in the walled garden is the reason why Google is logically infusing its Web services with social software.
This Web phenomenon is also the reason Google has been revving up its mobile and display advertising efforts. The company acquired mobile ad maker AdMob for $750 million last year and agreed to buy display ad player Admeld last week. Google has also accelerated its YouTube efforts, adding thousands of streaming movie titles and using Google TV as a new access point for YouTube and its display ads.
Near-term, Google has little to worry about. EMarketer said Google will take 41 percent of all ad dollars, with Facebook netting 7 percent of U.S. online ad spending this year.
What Google is nervous about is that Facebook is getting more users to stay online with its site longer, which means more users are seeing more display ads on the network.
This generates more ad cash for Facebook and its partners. Moreover, ad partners who would normally go to Google, Microsoft or Yahoo for display ad placement now have Facebook as the optimal choice to spread their message. This is why Google has been boosting social -- adding the +1 button -- and why it's been fortifying its already strong ad arsenal.

Anonymous Hit USTelecom & Tech America To Protest Against CISPA (#OpDefense

As expected the protest against Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) took place. The hacker group Anonymous claimed responsibility for taking down the websites of USTelecom and Tech America while engaging massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which both back the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011. Both sites remained unreachable as of Monday afternoon. A member of Anonymous posted a YouTube video showing USTelecom's site down Sunday, and the site was down for about 24 hours, according to a USTelecom spokesman. The trade group discovered that the site was down at about 6 a.m. Monday, he said.
Last Friday Anonymous released a YouTube video threatening supporters of the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, a bill focused on encouraging U.S. government agencies and private businesses to trade information about cyberattacks. The bill would harm the Internet, the video said. "We will unleash the worst pain on those who threaten our existence," the video added. The video declared Operation Defense (CISPA) and these two attacks ware the part of this ongoing operation. Earlier we have seen massive protest from not only hackers but also different part of the world in case of controversial SOPA, PIPA & ACTA. So again the history reveled for CISPA.

Steve Jobs Death Has Been Exploited By Facebook Scammers

As has often happened after the death of a public figure, a scam was started on Facebook Thursday to exploit the death of Steve Jobs.
Claiming that free iPads were being given away in “in memory of Steve,” the Facebook page was quickly taken down after the media began to report on it.

People who clicked through were led to sites asking them to fill out surveys or sign up for free offers. Forbes points out that the scammers are paid affiliate fees for having brought traffic to the sites. A similar scam took place after singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her North London home in July. Links were posted on Facebook to videos of the “shocking” final moments before her death. Instead, people were led to survey sites. After the attacks in Norway, spammers posted a link to a video they said was captured of the blast. Those who clicked were taken to a fake YouTube site that asked users to take a long survey. And as the Occupy Wall Street protests continue, a Web site called OccupyParty.org has popped up that NPR reports appears to have been created to sell ads. Except a single YouTube video, no information about the protests is available on the site. The Steve Jobs Facebook page was one of about 100 pages created Thursday with the title “R.I.P Steve Jobs.” Most of the other pages were created by Jobs’ fans.
Update:-
AppSumo, a daily deals website for web applications and online services, sent out an e-mail last night to customers that used Steve Jobs’ name in the subject line, but had no mention of him in the main text. The subject line for the email, advertising a deal for font collections, read: “Steve Jobs was originally obsessed with typography.” AppSumo says the email was sent without realizing Jobs had died.

Twitter May Face Nationwide Block in India, If They Doesn't Remove 28 Harmful Pages

Twitter May Face Nationwide Block in India If They Doesn't Remove 28  Harmful Pages

The Government of India has threatened to block Twitter across the whole country, if the social networking giant doesn't block and remove 28 accounts containing objectionable content within 12 hours. The department of telecommunications (DoT) ordered blocking of the accounts on August 20. The blocked accounts include those maintained by a columnist and a journalist working for a TV channel. Those Twitter accounts are part of a list containing over 300 specific URLs that internet service providers (ISPs) in India have been told to block. The list is dominated by URLs belonging to Facebook and Youtube. Indian government allegedly found 102 URLs on Facebook and 85 URLs on YouTube where communally sensitive content was posted. According to a blogpost at Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) told almost "all of the blocked items have content that are related to communal issues and rioting". The information ministry has issued Twitter with a deadline notice to remove "inflammatory and harmful" material that has allegedly triggered ethnic tensions against northeastern migrants living in southern cities. Thousands of migrant students and workers have fled cities such as Mumbai and Bangalore in fear of retaliation for violence against Muslims in the northeastern state of Assam. Internet posts, phone text messages and fake video clips allegedly spread rumours that Muslims were poised to attack them. "If Twitter fails to respond to our request, we will take appropriate action," senior home ministry official R K Singh was quoted as saying in the press.
"We have asked the information technology ministry to serve them a notice." Information technology minister Kapil Sibal said he was frustrated at the lack of response from US social networking sites.
Twitter has conveyed that it was facing technical difficulties in blocking certain webpages where morphed and inflammatory images were uploaded but the government made it clear that the social networking site has to withdraw them or face punitive action. "We are not ruling out," an official said when asked whether Twitter was buying time. The government says Google and Facebook have largely cooperated while Twitter has been much slower to respond.
The blocking of Twitter accounts was partial due to technical challenges. The accounts have already been blocked with the help of ISPs and not Twitter. Accessing them from India shows web users a message, saying "This website/URL has been blocked until further notice either pursuant to Court orders or on the Directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications". Also, the block works only if the accounts are accessed using HTTP and not HTTPS protocol.

Google TV Update For Android 3.1 (Honeycomb)

Google announced on its Google TV blog Friday that the platform will be upgraded to Android 3.1 (otherwise known as Honeycomb) for Sony devices Sunday, with the Logitech Revue set-top box getting its upgrade "soon thereafter." What will you get with this software upgrade to Android? Google says it's "much simpler." Its customization capabilities will go a long way toward alleviating the awkwardness of its first iteration, which Google admits was "not perfect."
And the addition of the Android Market will open up a variety of applications, with the promise of more -- perhaps thousands more -- on the way. One welcome improvement will be an easier ability to search across all the TV shows at your disposal. With this update, Google's trying to answer that age-old question, "What's on?" If Google can pull that off, it could be a powerful thing indeed. The company says it has learned from its mistakes with the first version of Google TV and is "committed to find the best way to discover and engage with the high-quality entertainment on your television." So does that mean Google TV will be able to find all the shows from whichever cable or satellite provider you're subscribing to, or from the web via all of the apps within Google TV, such as Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and HBO Go? Maybe. Of course, Google plans to improve Google TV's search across YouTube, its own video streaming service.
In the blog post, Google also hinted at future software updates (Ice Cream Sandwich, anyone?) and new devices "on new chipsets from multiple hardware partners." Hey, this is getting interesting.
We'll have to reserve judgment until we can install this software update on our Logitech Revue box, but for now, clearly this update has great potential. It makes perfect sense for Google -- purveyor of Android, the Chrome browser, YouTube and by the way, the world's search expert -- to leverage these powerful capabilities in its TV set-top. The hurdle Google needs to navigate is not so much a technical or software one, but a matter of negotiating and arm-twisting of content providers. Will the company gain cooperation from TV networks and movie studios, allowing their content to be searchable on the Google TV platform? That's the key to Google TV's success.

Sony Pictures Official Website & Facebook Page Hacked By Anonymous (#OpSony)

Remember few days ago we have covered that hacktivist Anonymous has given warning to Sony. Recently the have posted a YouTube video declaring that they will hack Sony again. If Sony doesn't stop their support of the Stop Online Piracy Act. Anonymous has confirmed that they have once again hacked Sony Pictures, gaining access to their Facebook account and website. Anonymous did threaten Sony for supporting the controversial SOPA bill and now it seems that the threats materialized.
The hack hit the Sony Pictures Facebook page and its web site homepage, according to reports and tweets from those involved. Comments were left on the web pages, but have since been removed.
The attacks carry the name #OpSony and were noted through the @s3rver_exe Twitter account

"#OpSony SonyPictures Hacked! by s3rver.exe , Anonnerd and N3m3515," says a tweet from that user, who continued, "I uploaded a @YouTube video (link removed) Sony Pictures Hacked By Anonymous."
"The hack wasn't big, but still the servers were vulnerable and I got access to the admin too," The Hacker added.
In 2011Anonymous caused major problems for Sony after successfully hacking into the firm's online gaming network and stealing the login information of thousands of users, forcing the system offline for several weeks.

Yahoo Mail Hit By XSS Exploit Putting 400 Million Users At Risk

Yahoo Mail Hit By XSS Exploit Putting 400 Million Users At Risk

Yet again mistrust growing in between the large number of Yahoo users, as it has been continuously failed to protect its customers from cyber attack. Late in last year we have seen that the two major services of Yahoo get compromised, which affects millions of its registered users across the globe. First it was Yahoo Voice, which get hacked while putting 450K users at high risk. Then it was the time for Yahoo Mail, where few Egyptian hacker figured out serious XSS vulnerabilities in Yahoo Mailing service  that lets attackers steal cookies from Yahoo Webmail users. Later cyber criminals made product while exploring that loop holes, that so called product or widely known as exploit was made available at high price in underground market and forums. As expected Yahoo immediately patched these loopholes, but now it seems they did not learn lesson from the decent past.
You all may be wondering! what happened? Again the security of Yahoo fallen victim in front of hackers.  Shahin Ramezany, a hacker and independent security researcher have figure out a DOM-Based XSS vulnerability in Yahoo Mail that is exploitable in all major browsers. Ramezany tweeted about this issue whihc links to an YouTube video, where he demonstrated the hack. Shahin Ramezany also claimed that the exploit have put more than 400 Million yahoo users at risk

As soon as this story get spotted, Yahoo immediately responds the matter, in their official release a Yahoo spokesman said "We’ve been looking into it and the US have now confirmed that they are investigating too. They will be in touch if there is a comment – otherwise I recommend that if users are concerned then they should change their passwords immediately."

Later Yahoo said that thy have plugged the security hole. In their statement the spokesperson added, “At Yahoo! we take security very seriously and invest heavily in measures to protect our users and their data. We were recently informed of an online video that demonstrated a vulnerability. We confirm that the vulnerability has been fixed. In addition, we are investigating recent reports of increased abusive traffic and will work diligently to fix any vulnerabilities that are found. Concerned users are encouraged to change their passwords to a safe password that combines letters, numbers, and symbols.”

But this issue did not get completely resolved, as immediately after the fix release of Yahoo, Shahin Ramezany said that the fix is not good enough, and the Yahoo Mail exploit is still active. In his twitter he said "not effective enough and users are still [at] risk," since the proof-of-concept code can be easily tweaked to continue attacks.

Anonymous takes down Tunisian government site (AntiSec Continues)

Albeit LulzSec calling it quits, the hacking saga continues. Hacker group Anonymous claimed responsibility of taking down Tunisian government's official website moments ago. The seized domain now displays text posted by Anonymous, along with a masked image that signifies the hacker collective. The display post alleged that the Tunisian government "ignored demands from Anonymous" to withdraw from their "quest for internet censorship." The hacking group claimed that "more and more have joined Anon, only to prove that for each fallen Anon there are many."
The note declared that in the "heights of #ANTISEC, people from all over the world will join united against corrupt governments throughout the world including Government of Tunisia and fight for freedom." Apparently the hacker group is driving home a point by taking down the government site, as stated in the display note. "We will not stop until internet censorship is a word in the history books," asserted Anonymous.
They called upon the people of Tunisia to continue "fighting for truth" and "know that ANTISEC is on their side." The 'protest' note also said, "We believe freedom of speech and freedom of knowledge is a basic human right."
Anonymous declared that the internet is "the last frontier" and that they "will not let corrupt governments spoil that."

The closing statement of the release said "We are Anonymous, We are LulzSec, We are People from around the world who are stepping in the name of freedom."

President Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia had gained notoriety by filtering and blocking various Internet sites, including social networking sites Facebook and YouTube. Though the Internet restrictions have been lessened considerably following the president's ouster, sites which criticize Tunisia's human rights record still remain blocked in the country, including Amnesty International (www.amnesty.org), Freedom House (www.freedomhouse.org) and Reporters Without Borders (www.rsf.org and www.rsf.fr).

Iran Accused of Carrying out Cyber Attacks Against US Banks Over Anti Islamic Movie Issue

Iran Accused of Carrying out Cyber Attacks Against US Banks Over Anti Islamic Movie Issue

Since last few days, the conspiracy with the 'Anti Islamic Movie' was the headline in every where. We have seen global violence and a mass protest mainly came from Muslim brotherhood. This protest was also touched the internet, and as expected Muslim hackers joined the movement, which cost many damages for the cyber fence. Thousands of websites became victim of cyber attack, and among them several US banks also faced huge disturbance. This protest takes a new direction when Govt of Iran announced the blockage of Google Inc's search engine and its email service. "Google and Gmail will be filtered throughout the country until further notice," an official identified only by his last name, Khoramabadi, said, without giving further details. The Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) said Google ban was connected to the anti-Islamic film posted on the company's YouTube site which has caused outrage throughout the Muslim world.
This stand of Iran Govt created a controversy, which make them responsible for carrying out cyber attacks against US banks. According to NBC news report US National Security officials accused the Iranian government for engaging cyber attacks against US Banks mainly Bank of America. But when the ball goes to Iran's side then they completely denies the blame, while saying "We officially announce that we haven't had any attacks," This statement came from the Head of Iran's civil defense agency Gholam Reza Jalali when he was asked about the report. The western media reports alleged on Friday that Muslim hackers have repeatedly attacked Bank of America Corp, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Citigroup Inc over the past year as part of a broad cyber campaign targeting the United States. Security sources told Chicago Tribune and NBC News that the attacks on the three largest US banks originated in Iran, but it is not clear if they were launched by the state, groups working on behalf of the government, or "patriotic" citizens.

Here we want to refresh your memory while digging up a story, when Iran Govt decided a permanent Internet ban in Iran, where Iran Government has announced its plans to establish a National Intranet within five months. The Iranian minister for Information and Communications Technology, announced the setting up of a national Intranet and the effective blockage of services like Google, Gmail, Google Plus, Yahoo and Hotmail, in line with Iran's plan for a "clean Internet." And that five months is almost over, so may be the blockage of Google came due to that reason, or may be not. We suggest our readers that, it will be better if you ask yourself, that whether Iran was indeed responsible for the cyber attack or not??!!

Anonymous withdrawn #op-India & the untold story of this operation.

The fledgling Indian operation of hacker group Anonymous attacked the website of the Indian army on Friday, but reversed its decision after it ran into criticism from Indian supporters who were annoyed that the Indian army was targeted.
Later on Friday, the hacker group said in a Twitter message that the Indian army site was now working fine. The new consensus appears to be not to target government websites, but only those of corrupt politicians. Anonymous has made common cause in India with an anti-corruption movement in the country. It hacked earlier this week the website of the National Informatics Center (NIC), an IT planning and services organization of the Indian government. On Anonymous' Operation India page on Facebook, it was criticized on Friday by a number of users after it announced that it had hacked the Indian army's site. "I won't support hacking the page of Indian Army. SAD," said one Facebook user. "Why indian army? what do they have to do with this? this is not Pakistan," said another user. Later on Friday, the Indian operation of Anonymous said on Facebook and Twitter that from now on it would target only corrupt politicians. "Operation India Anonymous Feel that we should not Target any site without getting your opinions," it said on Facebook. On Twitter, the group said that they were Indians, and "dont want to harm our own property." Anonymous said earlier in the day that the attack on the Indian army site had not led to any loss of data for the army, but was just meant to send a message to the Indian government about corruption. It also posted videos of its demands on YouTube. The hacker group also claimed to have attacked the NIC site again on Friday. The part of the website that was hacked earlier in the week is still "under maintenance." The NIC hosts a number of Indian government sites. Late Thursday, Anonymous said it had launched a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack on Turkish government websites in protest against a new Internet filter system that is to be introduced in August. The website of a Turkish telecommunications authority was not accessible.
Some Untold Facts and the reality of #op-India:-
In reality Anonymous never start #op-India, because Anonymous don't hit democratic countries, media and so on.It was a few Indian guy (for some reason I am not publishing their names, but I believe that you all know them) who started this mission by using the name of Anonymous. They did this for their personal profit, not for the noble cause which they ware pretending to say. In short time that guys just fool some innocent Indians, they played with the soft corner and miss use the sympathy of common peoples. In short the #op-india was totally fake, and was created for personal profit. Now due to huge pressure they were forced to close that fake mission. I am proud to say that VOGH was among them who protest those crooks who did this thing. They just violated the media, GOV and more importantly they tricks with the emotion of common Indians. We strongly earge to Indian GOV that those rascals should be fucked up.

Brazilian ISP Under Massive DNS Poisoning Attack, Redirecting Users To Malicious Sites

Major Cyber Attack on Brazilian Internet Services Provider. The attackers are performing massive DNS poisoning attack to redirect their account holders into the malicious websites.

According to Kaspersky's SecureList:-
"In the past few days several Brazilian ISPs have fallen victim to a series of DNS cache poisoning attacks. These attacks see users being redirected to install malware before connecting to popular sites. Some incidents have also featured attacks on network devices, where routers or modems are compromised remotely. Brazil has some big ISPs. Official statistics suggest the country has 73 million computers connected to the Internet, and the major ISPs average 3 or 4 million customers each. If a cybercriminal can change the DNS cache in just one server, the number of potential victims is huge.
Last week Brazil’s web forums were alive with desperate cries for help from users who faced malicious redirections when trying to access websites such as YouTube, Gmail and Hotmail, as well as local market leaders including Uol, Terra and Globo. In all cases, users were asked to run a malicious file as soon as the website opened..."'

Anonymous Reacts Against Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)

Hacktivist Anonymous expressed their reaction against the the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) reconvenes by the US Senate. While the world has been given little time to react to SOPA, Anonymous promises its reaction won’t be little. The hacker collective said the overwhelming backlash against the controversial bill should be enough to defeat it but the very fact deliberations are being reconvened so swiftly today after breaking down last week makes it clear corporate lobbyists are working to see SOPA fast tracked.

"The goal of the so-called 'Stop Online Piracy Act' SOPA is to empower litigious U.S. corporations to police the internet, with the ability to act as judge, jury and executioner. SOPA tramples civil rights laws, fair use, freedom of press and freedom of speech. Under SOPA, an average person could be arrested, fined, sued and spend time in a federal prison for so little as uploading a video to YouTube or even linking to one. This law further proves the reality of corporate rule and totalitarianism.

It has been clandestinely moved forward in an attempt to fast track the law under the radar of a culture drunk on materialistic obsession - as such The House Judiciary Committee is reconvening on the 21st of December. In short, we were lied to.

While it was the intent to give people little time to react, our reaction will not be little. This oligarchy rules without democracy, consent or support; it fears us, it fears protesters, it fears the solidarity of the Occupy Movement, it fears the 99pc, it fears YOU. The federal government currently perches on the narrow brink of collapse, let us give it a nice, hard push....."

Motorola Plans More Hacker-Friendly Phones

Since the premiere of the Droid Two, Motorola’s Android-based smartphones have been notoriously unfriendly to modification and hacking. But the company may be changing its ways.
According to Motorola, its devices will become more mod-friendly toward the end of this year. The company plans to introduce software changes which will allow advanced users the option to modify core components of their phone’s operating system.
“Motorola will enable an unlockable/relockable bootloader, currently found on Motorola Xoom, in future software releases where carrier and operator partners will allow it,” Motorola said in a statement provided to Wired.com. “It is our intention to include the unlockable/relockable bootloader in software releases starting in late 2011.”
A locked bootloader is a big irritation for people who want to modify their Android phones’ operating systems. In short, it drastically limits the amount and type of customization a customer can accomplish on his or her phone. Popular modding software like CyanogenMod — a custom Android build that optimizes a phone’s hardware performance and adds a number of nifty flourishes — can’t be installed.
Motorola contends that it wants to strike a balance between “the operator requirement for security to the end user” or the average Joe with an Android device who doesn’t care about hacking it, one the one hand, and “the need to support developer communities in using these products as a development platform,” on the other. The option to unlock and relock the bootloader on a phone seems to fit in this middle ground, though Motorola does say this will be restricted to “the carrier and operator partners” that will allow the option.
The company hasn’t always been so diplomatic. When people complained about Motorola’s locked-down practices in the comments section of a YouTube video featuring the Atrix earlier this year, aMotorola employee shot back a less-than-warm response:
“If you want to do custom roms [i.e. modification software], then buy elsewhere, we’ll continue with our strategy that is working thanks.”
After developer uproar ensued in the wake of the comment, Motorola apologized, and gave its first sign that the locked-down quality of its phones may soon change:
“We apologize for the feedback we provided regarding our bootloader policy. The response does not reflect the views of Motorola. We are working closely with our partners to offer a bootloader solution that will enable developers to use our devices as a development platform while still protecting our users’ interests.”
Not everyone in the developer community is convinced Motorola will change its ways. Just as with the Atrix, they say they’ve been burned before. The Droid Two and Droid X models, for example, both came with locked bootloaders, despite the immense success of the Droid One.
When Android user Irwin Proud decided to buy the Atrix smartphone in February, he assumed it would ship with an unlocked bootloader.
He assumed wrong. Proud received an Atrix with a locked bootloader. As a self-proclaimed tech nerd and phone-modification enthusiast with a locked-down phone, Proud wasn’t happy.
Instead of taking it lying down, he started an online petition in late March at Groubal.com, asking Motorola to provide an unlocked bootloader solution for its current and upcoming devices. As of Wednesday, Proud’s petition has close to 9,000 signatures.
After a series of back-and-forth e-mails between Proud and customer-service representatives at Motorola, the company finally issued a statement to Proud claiming that an unlockable bootloader would be made available to its late 2011 releases.
Proud remains hopeful. “I’m optimistic that they will change,” said Proud in an interview with Wired.com, “because they have not experienced the same level of interest for any of their devices since the original Droid phone released at the end of 2009.”
Indeed, exact sales figures for the Atrix and the Xoom haven’t been released, but some analysts arecalling projections “disappointing.”
“I think they’ve tried to replicate it’s success,” said Proud, “but they haven’t had any luck. Now they need their community back.”

Anonymous Released Sensitive Conference Call Between FBI & Scotland Yard

Anonymous Released Sensitive Conference Call Between FBI & Scotland Yard

Hacktivist Anonymous continuing their F**k Friday rampage. In the last Friday they have recorded & released a sensitive conference call between the FBI and Scotland Yard. The group released a roughly 15-minute-long recording of what appears to be a Jan. 17 conference call devoted to tracking and prosecuting members of the loose-knit hacking group and its spinoff group LulzSec. FBI source said that "The information was intended for law enforcement," the source also told that those responsible will be held accountable.
The authenticity of the recording could not be immediately verified and it's unclear how the hacking group obtained it. Names of some of the suspects being discussed were apparently edited from the recording. "The information was illegally obtained and a criminal investigation is underway," FBI spokesman Tim Flannelly told FoxNews.com. He did not provide any additional details.
If authentic, the discussion itself appears quite sensitive. Those on the call talk about what legal strategy to pursue in the cases of Ryan Cleary and Jake Davis -- two British suspects linked to Anonymous -- and discuss details of the evidence gathered against other suspects "We've set back arrests of Kayla and T-flow until we know what's happening,"
In a pastebin Anon also released a email titled "Anon-Lulz International Coordination Call" with with all the email-ids of FBI & Scotland Yard officers, time, Access Code and detailed time. In their twitter AnoymousIRC said "The FBI might be curious how we're able to continuously read their internal comms for some time now."
Anon made the conference call available for download in mp3 and also released a YouTube video

Anonymous Took Responsibility Of Hacking Into 50+ Toronto Websites (#OccupyToronto)

Anonymous took responsibility of hacking into 50+ Toronto websites. In a YouTube video anon said
"We have been receiving plenty of complaints that Toronto business based websites have been hacked. People quickly assumed that OccupyTO was behind this, but luckily Anonymous stepped up to the plate for taking responsibilities for their actions. At this moment we do not know why the websites were redirect to OccupyTO’s website (www.occupyto.org). Although, this seemed to be a response to the first video that threatened to remove Toronto from the internet. All we can say at this point is that Anonymous, is stating a point that this occurred because of the cities actions to evict the protesters. A video is claiming that Anonymous attacked 50+ Toronto business based website, took down Canadian Craigslist website, and gained access to a valuable email account. We hope everything comes down to a peaceful agreement."

"It has come to our attention that some websites in Toronto have started re-directing to the occupyto.org website.  Please be advised that this action is NOT condoned by the Occupy Toronto movement, rather some individual has taken it upon themselves to compromise websites in this way.
The issue seems to be related to websites running Joomla 1.5 or 1.6.  The solution is to check the source code of the page and search for the word ‘occupy’.  Once you have located the code you should have an indication of what article contains the script.  In some cases it may be in multiple articles.  Just edit and save each infected article and the problem should be solved.
If you are unable to solve the problem yourself, free support is being offered.  Just send an email to occupyto@blinktwice.ca with your website address and the username and password of an account that has access to edit your website.  Rest assured your login information will be held in the strictest confidence.  Once the problem is solved it is advised to change your password(s) to the site" Anonymous added.

#LulzSec Planned To Back Again On April Fool's Day (#Project Mayhem!)

#LulzSec Planned To Back Again On April Fool's Day (#Project Mayhem!)
We have good news for Hacktivist supporters and parallely bad news for corrupt Govt & Industries. Infamous hacker collective group named Lulzsec or Lulz Security promised to back live again on the day of 1st April. According to a You-Tube video - "Several days ago we decided to swiftly bring back our humble hacking group and set sail towards the Interwebz once again, much to the dismay of corrupt governments and corporations across the planet. It's ridiculous to believe that by arresting the six prime members of LulzSec that you've stopped us. You haven't stopped us, you have merely disrupted the active faction". The group announced that it would officially resume attacks on April 1, 2012. The video continued, "Lulzsec will start targeting governments, corporations, agencies, and quite possibly the people watching this video. We are here for the lulz, the fame, the anarchy, and the people."
Since last 30 days we have seen many key members of Lulz & Anonymous are randomly getting busted by Federal authorities, so it can be suspected that coming April attack will be a tit for tat.  The announcement was previewed one day prior via the FawkesSecurity Twitter channel in a tweet that read, "Expect something BIG and rather Lulzworthy very soon. CIA, FBI, Interpol, you're all on teh (sic) list." Wednesday, meanwhile, tweets from the same Twitter channel promised that "Anonymous will target national infrastructure" and create a "global financial meltdown" as part of what's been dubbed "Project Mayhem."
One thing is very unclear and that is the Twitter account AnonOps, which has 302,000 followers, has not mentioned Project Mayhem, Project Facebook, Operation Imperva, Operation Restore, or anything else on FawkesSecurity’s YouTube account. Furthermore, the Twitter account LulzSec is still silent and lulzsecurity.com is still down. So now it depends on you that how you will react this one, may be April Fool joke or may be some thing else.
